Re: I should have known better !!!!

A ...er....friend of mine (not me obviously) was up very early and looking forward to starting a new job. Taking extreme care ironing my... his new shirt, it appeared that the iron wasn't working. Easy solution, place the iron next to your face to feel the heat (or not). Whoops/OUCH. He eventually a...

Have a look here Edited by Jack Kane

Obviously, being a H&S professionals, nobody here would find such idiotic behaviour at all amusing.

But try not smiling at some of the antics here - they are amazing (especially the double scissor lift)

Re: Here we go again! Elf and Safety

But it never works the other way does it?? Remember the poor child who was severely burned when a cotton wool 'snowman' costume was ignited by a candle last Christmas. Perhaps if this 'event' had been properly risk assessed, would it have happened?? But no such mention of that omission in the media!...

Re: Additional means of escape ???

It's all down to ensuring there is a satisfactory means of escape. Such a proposal will almost certainly trigger a review of the premises fire risk assessment (FRA). When conducting the review of the FRA, several factors wil need to be considered including: suitability of escape routes (including tr...

Re: Fire Doors Locked Out of hours allowed?

Under the UK's primary piece of fire safety legislation: The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety)Order 2005, there is an absolute duty to safeguard all 'relevant persons'. In the Order they are defined as: "relevant persons" means— (a) any person (including the responsible person) who is or may...

Re: Migraines

As has been said, the cause of migraines is not clear and even seems to be giving the experts a headache!! I have suffered from chronic migraines for years and would strongly urge anyone who suffers to visit their GP and annoy them (rather than their employer). My headaches turned out not to be clas...

Re: Changing use of a designated Fire Door - process

There's absolutely no reason why you cannot alter the location & route of your escape routes as long as you have sufficient for the size (travel distances to final exits) and occupancy (ie numbers of people in building) . The whole process is down to your fire risk assessment which realistically...

Re: LPG Emergency Procedures

Leak in a bulk tank of LPG? - call 999 whilst running away!! Leak in a LPG cylinder? - Action here depends on many factors but mainly the size of cylinder & it's location But remember, LPG is heavier than air. It will 'pool' in low lying areas as a liquid will do. Despite it's smell, you may not...

Re: Backstabbing???

This has been a fascinating thread and acts as a reminder to those like me whose job it is to enforce H&S (in my case fire safety) that life can be very difficult for those who take on the H&S role in addition to other duties It could be argued that some of my colleagues can be rather short ...

Re: Nursery School Safety Guidelines

Children's nurseries fall under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety)Order, which is usually enforced by the local fire authority. If you have concerns relating to the safety of the youngsters you might be advised to inform your local fire service who will almost certainly investigate. The Nursery sho...

Re: Fire at end of normal working hours - ACOP?

In addition to ensuring all persons are accounted for you may need to consider retaining key staff on site who may be required to help the fire service with access, technical help, fire investigation and/or securing the site. In addition, if you are a major employer, you may need to assess whether h...
