Parliament

I have just been reading that the House of Commons took a vote on whether to leave the Palace of Westminster during the MAJOR refurbishment work that is required to ensure the safety of the building - it passed by 16 votes! The safety of people, even politicians, is more important than a building, e...

Re: LOLOER Question

I would totally agree with QS. A pallet truck is used to move material not lift it so comes under PUWER and not LOLER. We have all our pallet trucks inspected annually by the LOLER engineer who inspects our lift trucks. He completes a specific form that refers to Regulation 6 of PUWER. Auditors are ...

Re: Bureaucracy Gone Mad

Sounds like Camden Borough Council! The ones who refused to provide me with resident parking permits or trader permits when delivering medical aids to patients in the community on THEIR behalf and then charged us a fortune for a day pass.

Re: Monday 17th Nov

Morning all Wet and miserable in Loughborough today. Today will start with an accident investigation interview, followed closely by the investigation write up and ending with some documentation reviews with a site wander thrown in for good measure. I know self praise is no praise, but I have passed ...

Re: NCRQ vs NVQ vs NEBOSH

I have just passed the NCRQ Diploma (pending the validation interview) and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is taxing, challenging and completely based in the real world. It has taken a little longer than I originally anticipated but that is the benefit of the NCRQ Diploma, it is done at your...

Re: Mandotory PPE

I am not a fan of mandatory, site-wide rules, particularly for PPE. What were the near misses? Would the wearing of head protection prevent injury or would other measures that are higher up the hierarchy of control be more effective? What does the risk assessment say about head injuries. I have chan...

Big Ben

Morning all I had reason to pop into Tesco this morning and happened to notice the headline on the Daily Mail "DEATH KNELL FOR COMMON SENSE - Big Ben silenced for FOUR years to protect workers' hearing..... yes, it's all down to Health and Safety!" The Daily Mail has done it again. "B...

Re: Friday 7thy July 2017

Well the end of the week has finally arrived. A good week when all things are considered. I brought in a competent person to do a Fire Risk Assessment at my site so Tuesday was taken up with that. I am delighted that my cunning plan to leave way too many fire safety signs, put up some dirty lights a...

Re: literacy test - non native employees

We have 150-200 temps in our factory on any given day and the vast majority are Eastern Europeans. Today I made a start on a risk assessment review that includes a couple of repetitive task assessments. I knew most of the team would not much English. The one lad who I was told spoke very good Englis...
