Re: Emergency Stops
Yes you can add an e-stop as long as it works in conjunction with the one already in place. The machine will need to force reset after the stop has been pressed. Remember to number your estops and test daily/weekly (depending on number) You should have a PUWER assessment carried out on the machinery...

Re: When to and when not to risk assess?
I always refer back to this Myth Busters article from the HSE: http://www.hse.gov.uk/Myth/myth-busting/2013/case140-risk-assessment.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Issue The enquirer has been told that he needs to carry out a risk assessment for every single task that an...

Re: Non employees in company vehicles
You might as well class them as 'being at work'. Is there a difference from a driver having his son sit with him, to a young lad on work experience? Complete a young persons risk assessment and and ensure that all that are riding in vehicle are aware of company procedures. This is employment time af...

Re: heavy plant running with doors open
As well as the chance of falling out of the cab and seat belts etc... Having the door closed would reduce the noise and dust entering the cab. I can understand the point about the heat stress and the need for opening doors to let in cool air. Doors are access points and even though it may have a lat...

Re: Fire Safety and Places of Sport Act 1987
The Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987 heavily relates and mentions the fire certificate which is now not in use. I'm thinking that the legislation is now superseded by the RRFSO?

Re: Is a roof permit to work required?
As with the above, what use is a permit to work if all the hazards have been controlled or eliminated before hand. Using a permit to work on a cherry picker would identify and control hazards which are not found in the RA. If the roof is flat and made for walking on, edge protection in place then I ...

Sit in the car, steer it and press the button.
Place markers on the side of the ramp so the guy knows where he is and gives him better judgement of when to stop whilst inside the car.

Re: Mobile Access Unit or Trestle
Mobile access unti should be inspected every 7 days the same as fixed scaffolding by a competent person. There is no need to re-inspect it if it is being moved or wheeled to another position. Inspection should take place once erected, every 7 days and also checked by the person using it to ensure th...
