Re: Handrail Height

@PaddyT I'd agree, but depending which regs I read, Building Domestic Building Commercial Machinery ISO 14122-3 Marine (Ship Regs) (because it's a replica of a boat) Scaffolding (because it's tube and clamp fittings) Distance can be measured from working platform, not from top of toe boards (in case...

Handrail Height

Hi Guys, i think I'm overthinking this one but here goes. We are constructing a machine with a top landing on and open walkway, as edge protection we are fitting tube and clamp style tubes. Actual area on top is about 16m² with a rail on all 4 sides accessed by stairs. What are the regs regards top ...

Re: Working Platforms Banned On Construction Site?

Standard building site "blanket" rule. Like, "Everyone MUST wear Gloves" & "Eye protection at all times" We recently had to install one of our machines into a facility that was still classed as and still controlled as a building site. we were told that steps, hop-up...

Re: Carbon Fibre dust/fillaments

As ever, great answers guys, some very informative links and videos.

@stephen1974 - not at all off topic, just another example of not giving dust the respect it deserves.

Thanks Guys..

Carbon Fibre dust/fillaments

Hi Guys, We work in the aerospace industry, just not on actual planes, but do have to work with pre-cast carbon fibre. Can someone point me in the right direction regards risks of drilling, cutting and grinding of carbon fibre material. Is there any specific legislation regards controlling the dusts...

Abrasive Wheels

Hi Guys, Just wondering what everyone does regards Abrasive wheel training? In my previous spot, the fitter and his mate could use a bench and hand angle grinder, everyone else was barred, and that worked because nobody else needed to use one. These 2 guys got the half day course In my new position,...

Re: COSHH paint assessments

Not Suitable

We have, or did have, several nasty paints and all for different reasons, Etch Primers, Strontium Chromates, Isocyanates etc...

You need to create groups of similar paints, yes its ridiculous to do every shade or colour, but even matt or gloss can have vastly different compounds.

Mobile Scaffold Advice

Hi Guys, in need of some advice around mobile scaffold towers. We have, or did have 2 towers, but over recent years parts have become damaged or lost so now I am trying to make one working tower with the available parts. I have plenty of what I need apart from the 2.5m horizontal braces, and the sol...

Re: Hand Stackers

Hi Stephen, The standard pallet sizes are euro 12x8 and regular 12x10, but these adopted sizes are just to simplify logistics for hauliers. I used to order close to 60 different sizes of pallet depending on the products being produced, there were probably 6 or 8 sizes we used lot of but our pallet s...
