Hmm. That is a little odd then. I'm assuming that they are rated FD30 rather than FD30S?

Re: Fire Doors
Certainly there are exceptions - you won't always get intumescent strips affixed to metal or composite doors, for example. So long as they have met the standards set by the relevant British Standard then yup, sure, they are fire doors. You would hope that there is a paperwork trail to confirm this f...

Re: Fire Doors
I didn't hear about it at the time, but now half my team is ex-SFRS, so we get all the grizzly information (and thankfully plenty of silly stuff too).

Re: Fire Doors
As for firefighters, while its very laudable to consider their safety, but a FRA under the Fire Safety Order really only needs to (legally) consider risks to 'relevant persons'. Firefighters splashing water in an emergency are not relevant persons. While true, I've always considered the SFRS when I...

Re: Fire Risk Assessor Course
Good morning, Could anyone recommend a good quality Fire Risk Assessor course (Level 3 or above) please? Thanks, Ian Hi Ian, Not sure what level it is, but the best course I've done so far is this one: https://www.cstodd.co.uk/our-services/training/4-5-day-fire-risk-assessment-course/ Really good b...

Re: Marquees (Temprary Structures) Fire Seperation
If you desperately need someone to adjudicate, you could also contact your local fire station and see if they will discuss the FRA (once written) vs the guidance. They will almost certainly just tell you to do whichever is the more conservative choice though. Also, have you gone back to the events c...

Re: Building Safety Act 2022
My understanding is that the act has very little bearing on Scottish fire legislation, except in regard to things such as keeping records of cladding manufacturing details (which I guess makes sense to prevent Southerners using this as a loophole to potentially 'launder' their product somehow).

Re: Marquees (Temprary Structures) Fire Seperation
Appreciate that it's difficult to do so in advance, but have you completed a tentative fire risk assessment? I did the FRA for a large golf tournament and I was happy to state that there was no issue with having the marquee directly attached to the building as there were plenty of signed exits and n...

Re: Advice
Agreed with Stephen - it absolutely depends if the hazards are intrinsic to the location or to the actions being carried out. I can stand next to a person working on an assembly line, but so long as I am not touching anything, I might not need the safety gloves (or whatever) that the worker is weari...

Re: First Aid & Fire Marshal Posters
When I worked in M&S, we had a card system showing who was in or out. If a person was a first aider, their name had a green background. If a fire marshall, it was red. Some were half and half, and all normal staff were yellow. Now while this system was utterly useless for its primary purpose of ...

I'm willing to go slightly further and say that this is utter twaddle, unless someone has been using petrol to oil the hinges.

From this site on mining:

Wind-up watches would seem to be fine.If you select a watch for use in an underground coal mine, that watch will need to be either a mechanical movement or intrinsically safe.
