Re: Another fall from height
I do love that the default measurement for the British public is always the double-decker bus.

Re: Fire Risk assessment period
Fire risk assessments should be reviewed 'regularly', or when significant changes have occurred. Although you say that no major changes have occurred, but can you be sure that any minor alterations haven't had a greater impact than you realise? Assuming nothing significant has changed (the same work...

Re: Thursday - 31 March 2016
Yesterday turned out to be… interesting. Turns out that my Mother-in-law's driving licence was revoked whilst she was suffering from encephalitis a few years ago, but she was never informed so she's been driving without a licence for years. Yesterday she got stopped for looking at her phone whilst a...

Re: Tuesday - 29 March 2016
Safely back in the house after getting caught in a rather nasty hail storm without a jacket... OUCH That's just finished passing over us. I'm quite relieved, as my umbrella has been left in the family car, and I have the 20 minute walk home approaching... Struggling to get back into work mode, foll...

Re: Fire Wardens - How many?
There's no set numbers or defined system of calculation that I'm aware of. As long as all necessary tasks can be completed, and you are allowing for a percentage of wardens to be off sick, on holiday, popped out to the shop or actually on fire, then you should be fine. Things to consider: 1. The num...

Re: Manual Handling Powerpoint Presentation _ Train The Trai
I must have done 500 corporate manual handling courses in my time... Just to partially reiterate what has already been said, the less time your v̶i̶c̶t̶i̶m̶s̶ students spend looking at a screen / projection, the more time you have for actual 'hands-on' activities which they will be far more likely t...

Re: Disabled people 'only an afterthought', Lords report say
This is one of the things that has struck me (and one of a very small number of negatives) since leaving London and moving to Glasgow. I've always noted the little accessibility improvements that were constantly being made in London, and coming here feels like I've travelled back about 20 years. Sta...

Re: Coping with risk and danger should be part of curriculum
Mixed feelings about this one. I was not one of the bigger kids when at school, and tried and tried to get out of contact sports. School said no way, and within 3 minutes of my first game of rugby, I was sat on the floor with a broken arm. This was partially responsible for putting me off most sport...

Re: Floor Plans / Escape Routes
Floor plans can be useful in be useful in certain situations (helpful to risk assessors, sometimes good for the fire and rescue service if available upon arrival…), but for staff? In my opinion, the usual hierarchy of 'what staff do when the alarm sounds' is roughly like this: #5 What a plan pinned ...
