It was a while ago, but I think it was the 4.5 day FRA course, tweaked for Scottish legislation.Ader1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 7:48 pm Thanks for the reply. Which course did you do?

Re: Fire safety/prevention
Hi again, I am thinking of doing a Fire Safety kind of course. I know that Nebosh run one but I don't really want to do that. I have already done the Nebosh National General Certificate and I don't think I got that much out of it. I heard someone say that the Fire Service run some good courses but ...

Re: Fire Safety Sticks
I like how in the video, it takes the professional two attempts to start it off by striking the lid against the stick. I can absolutely see that lid being dropped in the panic of dealing with a real fire. That said, it does appear to work well and if you can just chuck it towards the fire and leave....

Re: Inexpensive Dsear course ?
Feel free to PM me your email address and I can share BRE Academy DSEAR Course Notes. Good course that my company sent me on last year. I think it was about £700 for a 3 day course. Tutor was a chap called Steve Manchester, who pretty much wrote the book on DSEAR. Cheers, but it wouldn't just be fo...

Yeah, my first thought was 'what does it say in their RAMS?'
If they are ignoring their RAMS, then refer it back to their manager. I certainly wouldn't start training their staff to do things correctly.

Re: Inexpensive Dsear course ?
Might prove to be a bit far south, but thanks, that is roughly what I'm looking for, I think!?
Ah, just realised they are doing a live online version at the start of next year. That may be more viable!

Re: Where do you need a fire door
I know it wasn't meant as an actual question, but while we are on the subject, IIRC, the British Standard says that 'up to five coats' of paint on an intumescent strip is probably okay. I suspect that probably depends on what they mean by a coat, but there you go.

Re: Where do you need a fire door
Oh and in response to your questions: 1. Both, one or neither are all valid options depending on the situation. 2. Yes, again depending on the situation. 3. Yes, many fire doors have met the test requirements without having an intumescent strip, though usually these are metal or composite doorsets. ...

Re: Where do you need a fire door
From what I remember, according to legal requirements fire doors would be needed 'where necessary'. Gotta love it. This means, as Messy has said, you need to think about how long everyone will need to evacuate. So consider the slowest person likely to be present, be that a staff member who uses crut...

Re: Inexpensive Dsear course ?
Also going to bump this one back up - I'm in exactly the same boat as the original post. Looking for something more than a 30-minute introduction for £50, but less than a 3 day in-depth course for £600.
Maybe something in the 'about a day' range.
Does this exist?

I was going to enter my team but we are already in the running for a third award this year*, and I've been told we can't afford to attend any more ceremonies
* All pretty minor, but it's nice.

Re: Section 156 Building Safety Act
When you say “The newer checks of fire doors are – as I understand things - not necessarily completed as part of the FRA…” are you saying that the FRA is purely designed to highlight any obvious defects which may compromise the common areas? Rather than a full fire door inspection? The current FRA’...
