Re: Floor Policy
I've never seen a specific floor policy as such, but you should be able to cobble one together from slips and trips + manual handling + a little common sense... Off the top of my head, in addition to what you've mentioned, I would add ramps / dips, materials (resilience and grip), rugs, inspections...

Re: Advice please
I spoke to the head to today who said it was my fault as I am her parent Oh dear, one of those headteachers. I can't stand the 'blame the victim first' approach, when all that is needed is a "Thank you for raising this, we will review the process and see what we can do", followed by a lat...

Re: Storage / use of fuel and licences
I can only assume that lawmakers take great delight in obfuscation.
From what I understand though, the person asking wasn't dealing with sit and ride mowers, so that should be okay.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Passive Smoking
The Wife must be well aware of the dangers of smoking/passive smoking nowadays, so why does she not help her Husband start on the road to "recovery" for both their sakes? You can't tell me nowadays that the lady has no say in her own home. She too, in my opinion, has to take charge of her...

Icy icy in Glasgow today.
Finishing up and submitting a report and then a weekend of sorting out the house as it has once again descended into chaos.

Its all here http://www.hse.gov.uk/fireandexplosion/workplace-not-dispensing.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Thanks Messy. I did read that, but the only part that negates the need for the licence was the fact that the storage container wasn't a 'fixed tank' precisely. P...

Re: Emergency Call point signage numbers?
Personally, I'd use a fine black sharpie to write it on the side of the CP itself. I'm almost sure that writing on safety signage is technically 'wrong', however providing the writing isn't going to distract from the point of the sign, I can't imagine anyone ever taking issue with it – many signs ha...

Storage / use of fuel and licences
Hi all, should be just a quick one... If a business uses petrol-driven lawnmowers and is storing 20 litres of fuel in a 30 litre capacity container on their premises (and refilling the mowers as required), do they need a petroleum storage licence? I was leaning towards no, but given the line 'You mu...

I've never encountered automatic doors that can be manually pushed open the opposite way... In fact I'm struggling to visualise how that would be designed in such a way that wouldn't damage the mechanism.
What about the hinges makes you think the door operates this way?

Re: Passive Smoking
Seeing as it was only a year ago (and less than that for Scotland) that smoking in a car with children was banned, I'm not surprised at all. Hopefully the car + smoke + children ban will be extended to also ban smoking within houses with children as well (or officially name it as a form of neglect),...

Re: Croydon tram: Seven dead and 50 injured after derailment
Very sad. I've been on that tram many times (it's the go-to route for getting to IKEA if you're a south Londoner).
I do hope that it turns out to have been something outside the control of the driver – falling asleep and killing 7 people can't be an easy thing to live with.

Re: Training Exercise for Your Grey Cells No 3
Berni has most of my thoughts covered, but a few extra (probably unlikely) possibilities. The consistent use of matches and frankly bizarre concept suggests that it's a single person who is very familiar with the premises, rather than multiple members of the public. Having said that, it appears that...
