We buy sleeved tubes for this very reason (not clumsy people and hard hats but showering glass everywhere after impact). Local stockist will have/can get them - Not much more expensive than regular ones.

Thanks Guys The door does need to be a sliding one as there's refrigeration (though not freezing) involved. The tracking is such that there's a designed drop of the door when it's almost closed (to ensure best seal) once it's up on it's runners it's own weight ensures that it moves OK - it's that in...
