Re: Coming Soon - QHS Manager Vacancy
Here it is, the search for my replacement has started. https://www.totaljobs.com/job/system-manager/gray-adams-job87710067 They're a good company to work with, I've been here 14 years so they must be doing something right. They still have some challenges left to get fully up to spec, but they have c...

Re: NVQ Level 6 Diploma
Hi lead, if you juststarted it you will have a general idea what you have got yourself into. When you are knee dep in case law or scaffolding regulations and it all seems a bit too much, or before then if you want to avoid the stress, ask about specific topics and we'll try to provide assistance. I ...

Re: internal ISO and OHSAS auidt checlklists
Checksheets are a worthless tick box exercise. How does that add value to the organisation or develop its management system? The standards, especially 45001 when implemented drive continual improvement in the organisation, improve communication, encourage workforce engagement, improve risk control i...

Re: Gaining experience
There are some jobs advertised that are really just fishing expeditions, either the recruiter is gauging the availability and wage expectations of H&S people, or they have a shoe in for the job but need to go through the recruitment exercise to tick a box in the organisation's checklist for fill...

Re: Welding fume and all things LEV and RPE
There is always an LEV solution to at least reduce the airborn concentration of fume, and if you can make it independant of the welders having to do something then so much the better. If the welders are protected by their masks then that is great, must be a dark and dirty workshop if welding fume ju...

Re: M1 safety week reduces collisions by a third
There is also the "Management Effect". When you visibly monitor anything you change it, and if you have intervention too you will change it a lot. Monitoring one road for one week may have reduced the accident rate, but does that mean there was not an increased rate on the other roads peop...

Re: Acetone/IPA cleaning
Depends how small the small components are. If you are talking electronics or jewellery, then acetone if fine, don't spray it on, either immerse the parts in the liquid rub the surface of the board with a brush and lift it out, shake off any drops back into the tank and close the lid. Acetone evapor...

Re: Coming Soon - QHS Manager Vacancy
Thankyou all for your kind words. I've been working in the East of Scotland for 14 years, and enjoying it, however I live in the West, my whole life is in the West (I got married 3 years ago... don't know if I mentioned it on here) so I am changing to a company much closer to where I live... not rea...

Re: How to be the best H&S professional I can ? - calling all H&S Colleagues
The most important part of being an effective manager is respect for whoever is in front of you. You need these people to trust you even if they don't like you Listen to complaints and do something about them, even if you have to say that after looking at all the options you can't get anything done ...
