Re: Minor Injury Reporting
In the companies I have been, I have always encouraged reporting of all incidents however minor. I am of the opinion that this is the only way to truly bring H&S up. Yes, it might be time consuming etc. but on the other hand you might decide not to run a full investigation for every incident. Th...

Re: LTIFR: Work to include: How far to go?
How far you go with it is entirely up to you. There's no rule for this as far as I'm concerned. If it was me, I would go as far as hrs on site and I would not include the hrs from suppliers or sub contractors that worked on items / services to be supplied to us if these were off site. I see where yo...

Re: Criticised for an Audit i did - by my own company
Morning, An important aspect in any audit (internal or external) is to have a defined scope and you have something to audit against. It should not be just from what you think. This helps in ensuring that the audit is seen as neutral and with no personal emotions involved. Also, a critical point is t...

Re: Warehousing and Storage // Racking Installation
The beam connector locks (pins) refer to racking systems that utilise the metal uprights (usually blue) and the beams (usually orange). These are designed so that you can easily remove the beams by pushing them upwards and then re-instal where convenient / needed depending on the size of the loads t...

Re: Riddor Reporting
Hi John, Yes the doctors diagnosis could be included in the RIDDOR report for completeness, however, this will not always be possible as there will be some occasions when you will need to report even without a doctors note as the first 7 days could be self-diagnosis and doesn't need a "fit note...

Re: American FLT Licence
Although you can dive FLT's without a license, when things go pear shaped, it is up to you how to demonstrate competence. With regards to the American FLT licence, I would allow them after they have gone through a quick (documented assessment) and the correct familiarisation. You will son see if the...

Re: First Interview tips
I know the feeling. On the bright side, it has always paid off at the end :) I doubt that you asking them a couple of time would have had any weight on their decision. I personally would not go back for anymore feedback. Just put it to the back of your mind, take it as a good learning opportunity, w...

Re: Ladder Checks
Sorry, was just a random number to make the point that records need to be kept and be robust enough to last for an extended period of time. A sticky label on a ladder for example that gets another label put over it cant be used for a record a year, 2 years x amount of years later. Most places would...

Re: Ladder Checks
What are the tags and can they be kept as records 6 years from now? Hi Stephen, where do the 6 years come from? What I do is: we have a formal inspection of ladders (documented) every six months (this might be more frequent for you - depending on RA) and we have "Safe Work Instructions", ...

Re: What next?
How long have you been acting as the group HSE Manager? that counts a bit together with the range of activities taken. You might be surprised that you might not need to drop your salary. Also if you are already on the higher bracket, 5 or 6k drop is actually not too bad after tax and everything. Cha...

Re: Riddor Reporting
I would have also reported this under RIDDOR following an investigation into the alleged accident. I wouldn't have put my opinions in the report, just the mere facts. They will be able to read between the lines and easily detect the nature of it.
