Re: Working at Height Training?

How much work at height do they do? How High do they usually work? How often? It is probably not worth external training if the maximum amount of working at height is using a step up to reach a high shelf. If it's regularly using a ladder to change light bulbs, then yes, it's probably worth external...

Re: Where do you need a fire door

Regarding:- "don't worry about some paint of the strips and seals. It should be a huge issue". I wasn't worried about the paint with it being minimal, I highlighted it to bring to their attention that they need to think before just accepting a fire door as being effective and to regularly ...

Re: Where do you need a fire door

Well, that was awesome. Thank you so much for your information. My issue is that I have only been on this job for three months. There are massive gaps in the health and safety I am expected to deliver, but I need to try and find a way to fix these gaps without our customer base realising they were o...

Where do you need a fire door

I have taken over from a health and safety advisor in an engineering business doing consultancy work. One of the roles I have inherited is to perform Fire Risk Assessments; looking at the standard of my predecessor's work, I don't have an excellent standard to retain. However, I like to do things pr...

Re: Welfare and hygenie provision considering different religions and cultures in a office workplace

I used to cover a site with about 1000 staff; it was a contact centre, so many people were in a small area. For some unknown reason, the sinks kept getting damaged in the gent's toilets, It was discovered that a religious group used them to wash their feet before prayer. Because there were so many p...

Re: Safety culture

Safety culture is an exciting topic; it is vast and has many aspects. Read up about training dogs; the similarities between training dogs and training humans are extensive. It also has a lot to do with expectations and trust. If you want a dog to learn something, you treat them when they get it righ...

Re: I a new here

Perhaps start with a gap analysis. Start with a site survey, the way I go about this is to start outside and describe everything in detail, with brief notes to begin with but written up in your office. Things like the road surface from the public highway, and floor marking on site to direct traffic ...

Mental Health Second Aid

I created a presentation for a job interview yesterday. The presentation was about mental health and hidden disabilities and it was very well received. If anyone wants to use it for their own needs in their workplace please feel free. https://safeandhealthy.work/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Mental-Hea...

Re: SHEQ/H&S committee - what do you cover and how frequent are meetings?

You haven't had much luck on here so here is a bit to start things. Frequency. This depends on the nature of the business, if it's a high-risk high-intensity business I would suggest quite regular meetings, with the knowledge I have I would suggest yours is, perhaps monthly. If the meeting doesn't h...

Re: Short Term Exposure Limit

What is the chemical? What does the Safety Data Sheet say? Perhaps if you are exposed to it for 8 hours you are dead, that would explain why. Perhaps the nature of the chemical you can't be exposed for 8 hours. It depends totally on the properties of the chemical and the conditions they are normally...

Re: IOSH Course Approval

I've had a course IOSH approved. It's quite straightforward. I sent training slides and trainers' notes. All they did is remove the pictures that were specific to the company and replace them with cartoons. They added their own IOSH slide telling everything about themselves. I am not sure if we paid...
