Re: Confidence gone - want to leave the profession
I stepped away from the Health and Safety area but didn't go to far away from it. I also work closely within the education area and the pressure that schools are under currently has never been felt before. I can imagine if you are working in that area there are a many plates to keep spinning all at ...

Re: Reviewing CCTV Footage
I would avoid doing this completely. Who is your nominated contact? they should have informed the ICO about what you are using the CCTV system for and they should be able to tell you what you can use it for, it is almost certainly not to be used to spy on your workforce! Most often than not its sole...

Re: Now questioning my ability to carry out FRA
A very interesting post. I was asked previously how I felt about potentially doing some FRA`s on some schools. At the time I was like, yes I would love to do that sounds like fun. At the time and I stick to this now, you dont know what you dont know. Don't get me wrong I had some understanding of th...

Re: What's your Profession?
Its funny looking back at this thread. I was originally planning to continue with health and safety after completing the NGC a few years back but I was given the opportunity to complete a chartered degree apprenticeship in building surveying. I have been studying for the past two and a half years w...

Re: CMIOSH
I think the same can be said for other chartered statuses. I have the Nebosh cert and I have been working in and around the FM market for the last 12 years. I could have gone down the CMIOSH route and took the health and safety path but I had the opportunity to pursue a slight change in profession r...

Re: How did you fnd us?
I believe my first interaction with this site was when I started the job I have now (Facilities Manager) before that I worked at Mcdonalds as a shift manager were I had some responsibility for health and safety and then move to be a deputy facilities manager on the back of that. In this role I have ...

Re: NEBOSH GC3 - Welfare Hazards????
Make sure you quote the The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. as most of what you stated above is contravention of this regulation. Expand on the other consequences of not complying as well like loss of company reputation, high staff turnover. Potentially corporate manslaughte...

Re: FRAs - being asked to specify what is legally mandatory
I believe the law states you have to do what is `reasonably practicable` where you want to draw that line would be up to I suppose how risk adverse the company you work for is. Often when I have recommendations from a FRA and get the `do we really need to do that` the answer from me is normally no w...

Re: Nottingham Railway Stn Fire
A member of staff told the BBC they had seen smoke coming from a sanitary bin in the toilets. So it was seen early enough that the exact starting point was identified, yet it became this major blaze? .scratch .scratch I do now find myself wondering about the construction materials used in the new b...

Re: How to be the best H&S professional I can ? - calling all H&S Colleagues
I try and pride myself on never saying no at least when it comes to health and safety, obviously if you are time pressured for other work and other work comes in you might have to say there will be a delay on that because I`m to busy. I would be scared to thing I ever said no to anyone and that was ...

Fire Door Inspections and Competence.
Hi All, Just need a pointer in the right direction. Is there a standard for fire door inspections? what would deem anyone competent to complete a fairly robust fire door inspection? Currently we are completing these with the use of a building surveyor but wondered if we could get the site supervisor...
