Re: COVID-19 Policy
We don't have a COVID-19 policy as such. We have a Risk Assessment which we have shared with our staff and publicised around the sites. We have also amended the induction for new starters, Agency workers and contractors, to include the basics of our COVID-19 controls, as well as pointing to the noti...

Re: COVID-19: guidance for first responders
Yes - I saw that and briefed it out to our first aiders. It meant I had to order in some disposable aprons and we've also provided face shields (gloves and masks were already available). I was also asked about first aiders' liability - in case they are infected and don't know. Our insurance covers i...

Re: How many of us are still at our work locations?
I'm at work and working from home where I can though, being in a manufacturing organisation which supplies to the construction industry, we are still running. Suppliers seem to be ok but customer sites are closing left, right and centre so I don't think it will be long before we close. We've got som...

Re: Help needed - Covid 19 & PPE
Hi Chris, I'm no expert on COVID-19 but, as afar as I can see, you're covered in protecting your employees. There are two ways of contracting COVID-19, according to the latest government advice: 1. Secretions can be directly transferred into the mouths or noses of people who are nearby (within 2m) o...

Re: Working with wood-saws
Thanks a lot QS. Yes, the RA I have inherited said this and I fully agreed with that when I reviewed it, as there is a fence all the way round preventing contact. The questions arose when the old timers here started trying to inform me that the "law" stated the equipment MUST stop within 1...

Re: Working with wood-saws
To avoid confusion, our machines are very old and have interlocked gates and guards, which are controlled from a timer which starts when power is removed. Only after the timer has run-down can the gate be opened. Our production guys say the saws should have fast-acting brakes on by law but, when pro...

Re: anyone else despite being the H&S manager - not invidted to be involved in your companies COVID-19 response meetings
Our organisation is having daily VC meetings with parent company and other Business Units too, and I don't attend them. There are 3 people in there from our BU - Ops Director, HR and MD. With plenty of other BUs ringing in with similar people, and the head office taking professional direction, I don...

Working with wood-saws
This is probably a question for Woody, but others may know the answer... I have recently started in a manufacturing organisation which cuts chipboard panels to size, through automated, industrial saws. I have been asked about the requirement to have a run-down time of 10 seconds but, as far as I can...

Hi Molly. No advice from me but I'm following as I hope to start IPD soon, so will have this (and the dreaded peer interview) in future.
Good luck and please let us know how you found it.

If it's available for all-comers, I'd appreciate a copy Scott, as I'm sure I'll be tasked with creating one at some point.
thanks.

Morning all.
Lots of rain expected today so my car is in use instead of the motorbike - it's going to make the commute twice as long
But at least it's a shorter day (by an hour)!

Or people (and organisations increasingly) want them and are not aware of the risks.stephen1974 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 6:30 pm Its a case of people want them so they will have them regardless of the risk.
