Re: Looking for help to get up to speed/safety cultures
Also from the North East of England here, live in Newcastle work in Teesside. I've been in H&S for around 10 years now and I'm happy to help out. I'll send you a private message for LinkedIn. The only thing I can suggest is joining IOSH (or other bodies) and using that platform to network at eve...

Re: Installing machinery
Could you give me some more details about your 'install'. What role does your company play in the chain? Are you supplying and installing, or installing and operating, or just merely installing the equipment for the business that will be operating it? Also what type of machinery is it? I'll help out...

Re: DSEAR courses?
Try DSEAR with a Bang by Dangerous Substance Control (DCS). We are a 5000+ employer and in developing our policy we use Roy from here. He's brilliant and very accommodating. The course is a day long and mainly shows you the properties of dangerous substances and the effect and consequences. It doesn...

Re: Pressure system permit to work
No pressure system permit to work to give you as we cover it with the general PTW. What work is being undertaken? Have a RA and SWP which will identify the mitigating measure to control the remaining risk, however Isolation is key here (As you mention pressure systems). I'm assuming there is a relev...

As above, your natural defences should be able to block out all inhalable dirt particles. I'd be surprised with the exposure if there is anything respirable.

Hi, I'm happy to help here as I've experience in this field and have sat many machinery safety course up to an advanced level (CMSE next). Re: Are generic risk assessments ok?
They do have their place but if you're doing them make them as a minimum standard. Identify the general hazards and apply the minimum controls you want the team to have in place. Then place the duty on the manager to then adopt and add their controls which will be relevant to the task. Place an obje...

Re: More Frustration
At times like this go into coaching mode and coach him on what should happen and sit down with him. If there's something to fill out do it with him and answer any questions he may have. The way I base my job as an advisor in energy from waste, is that I'm essentially trying to make myself redundant ...

Re: Welding COSHH Assessments
Ideally you're going to need to measure the actual exposure in the worst case scenario when there's no ventilation ideally in your work place. This will give you a much better idea about what type of RPE is required based on your scenario and work activity. However there is information out there tha...

Static Crane Chairs
Hi All, in an energy from waste plant we have three static crane chairs that the operators sit in for operating the overhead cranes. The seats are in a daft position and force the operatives to lean forward to see out of the window while using he controls. This will, in the long term give them massi...
