Re: Welding fume and all things LEV and RPE

We are currently having this discussion in our workshop. We have high level extraction and portable smog hogs already. The high level extraction pulls in the air and filters while the smog hogs can be positioned directly where the fume is being created by the welder. I plan to carry out air monitori...

Welding COSHH Assessments

Morning all, I am in the process of completing COSHH assessments. I am left with the welding consumables to complete. I have the MSDS but am struggling a bit with completing the assessments (not knowing much about welding and the consumables themselves). Given the recent HSE advise on welding fume I...

Re: How to be the best H&S professional I can ? - calling all H&S Colleagues

Hi T, I've been in the H&S game for about 8 years, having done my NEBOSH Gen Cert in 2011. I came from a Quality Management background, taking over H&S when the chap retired at my last company. The culture was pretty pants at the time and I found the best way was to get out on the shopfloor and enga...

Re: Use of IPAd and stylus - and Notes APP for taking notes and converting straight to Text

I don't use a stylus but use one note and type onto my ipad as I do audit or inspections. It syncs with the PC so you can just pull the text straight into other documents.

Re: Frustration

A lot of the time the H&S person isn't integrated with the rest of the management team. Either H&S is not seen as essential to the business, more of a paper exercise or the managers just think H&S is the job of the H&S manager. The H&S manager shouldn't be the policeman but the person that raises is...

Re: Welding MSDS

Hi all, Really interesting conversation, given that i'm in the middle of trying to sort this following the HSE advice. I too did not see anything specific on RPE requirements but had come the to conclusion air fed or battery fed filter RPE was the way to go (we have 3 guys that weld all day). We alr...

Hi T,

Do you mean like a Gap Analysis checklist to see if your systems meet the standard?

Re: Driving for work private and hire cars

Hi Mel, You should definitely be checking driving licences. Stephen has already posted the link and process above. We do this with all our drivers. There was a issue at my last company where a lorry driver got banned for drink driving, didn't tell the company and continued to drive the 7.5t lorry fo...
