Re: NVQ 5 in Occupational Health & Safety v NEBOSH Dipolma
your comment comes across as quite disparaging to all those who have achieved the Diploma from many, many months of hard study. Please accept my apologies  I certainly didn't mean to suggest anything like that. I know how much stress sitting that exam causes. What I meant by "naming" is that ...

Re: Shared Premises
If you are an employer you must have a H&S policy. Whether you share premises or not doesn't matter. Saying that: if you do share a building with other employers then you will need to co-operate with them to make sure you get things right. Things like fire drills might be easier to do together. If y...

Re: NVQ 5 in Occupational Health & Safety v NEBOSH Dipolma
NEBOSH is the one that employers have heard of. Because of this, it's the one they often specify when writing job specs. NVQ is a much more in-depth qual. It is a test of both practical skills and knowledge, whereas the NEBOSH is just knowledge. Also, the NVQ is part of the national qualification st...

Re: Do some people have a death wish?
Terry - I understand your frustration  Next time someone does something stupid, take their photo. Make sure they know you're taking it too (shout "say cheese!" or something like that). The usual response from this is for them to ask you what the heck you're doing. "Just taking your picture" is...

Re: NVQ delivery via OCR Awarding Body
This is true - we had confirmation from OCR today. If you are a learner: make sure you have your enrolment number. If your training provider hasn't given you an enrolment number yet then pester them for it now. We normally register learners after their first session with the assessor (that's me :wav...

Re: Health & Safety Inspector
A lot of companies ask for degrees now without really considering what that entails. Mrs Bear works in the housing department of a local authority and they had a vacancy for an administrator (don't know the role exactly). Lots of applicants, with the final decision being made to take on someone who ...

Re: Thursday 11 July
Morning Angie, Dave and Will  Hello to everyone who follows too :) Weather here is overcast but quite stuffy. Reckon it'll be a scorcher later on. I've got a careers convention to attend this afternoon - trying to convince young-uns that FE is for them. At least it'll get me out of the ...
