Re: Podcasts?

Mick, I listen to the `Pre-Accident Investigation` podcast by Todd Conklin. And yes it`s American, but, it has regular contributions from non-American people and is very good. Don`t get me wrong some of them I take nothing from, but there is usually something of interest. They`re usually only about ...

Re: Generic Risk Assessments - again

I never have and never will be comfortable with the term `generic`. The very mention of it makes me bristle. Would we say (and be satisfied) that one of our people has `generic` risk assessing skills? I hope not. The use of the term to me suggests that suitability and sufficiency will very much be g...

Re: Dust Mask Ad Hoc

KellyMac, I think you have referred to HSE blarb in your OP in that close fitting masks need a face fit test, however, in my experience this only refers to any mask with a seal and believe FFP1 masks normally come without said seal. So no need to face fit test. And to echo what Godscrasher said, you...

ACoP L23...transporting a load...with human effort... http://www.hse.gov.uk/pUbns/priced/l23.pdf
The use of a shovel falls within this in my view. I didn`t read any further after this I`m afraid, there may be something more specific further on.

Re: Furnace cleaning R.A.

As Adrian Lancs says the RA needs to be bespoke to job in hand but other things you should consider would be... presence of asbestos containing materials (ACMs), exposure to/ presence of non-carcinogenic dusts (non-asbestos), sharp or irregular edges/ surfaces, falling objects, working at height, fi...

Our guys, their kit

We may in the near future be taking on another task - welding. The person(s) will be our employees so will work to our RAMS and so on. The welding kit & consumables, however, will be supplied to us. If we have undertaken an RA that is suitable and sufficient, what else do we need to ensure/ have...

Re: do the diploma?

Andy, In my mind experience is key, however, taking the huge step and going on to the diploma would seriously augment the limited experience you already have and are building upon. As others have said some of the NEBOSH questioning does lend itself to having experience but hey, nobody out there has ...

Re: Asbestos advice needed

It seems to me that there would be a breach of Regulation 4 (Duty to manage) & Regulation 16 (Prevention of spread) of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Whilst the survey will be worded as `recommendations` to follow, it should never be construed as just a recommendation that may or may ...

I did double sided...and got a pass. Never even considered it as a factor. Maybe I should have to have gotten a better mark. Best to listen to others though.
