Re: "The three words that can save your life" - BBC

I think there's multiple aspects to it, from delivery companies to emergency situations. If it is as global as they say, you have to remember that there are dozens of different map reference systems in use around the world. You might be comfortable with an OS reference from a UK map, but how about g...

Re: NEBOSH or NVQ or NCRQ

I concur with Will. At least with the NEBOSH, everything is available, Study materials leading to Exam questions. With NVQ/NCRQ, they are evidence based, so what do you do if you can't obtain that bit of evidence? I don't personally know how it works with regards these H&S scenarios, but I have done...

Just goes to show how much difference a physical police presence makes instead of relying on traffic cameras.

Re: Acetone/IPA cleaning

Really shouldn't use Initials unless they are readily understood. Personally, I've never used IPA for cleaning...if someone has taken the time and effort to brew it, I'm going to drink it. IPA.jpg But then I suspect that we're talking different IPAs... and you're referring to Isopropyl Alcohol ;) I'...

Re: Welding fume and all things LEV and RPE

It really depend on the type of work and the position of the welding. There's a good little leaflet here from BOHS that you may or may not have seen: http://www.breathefreely.org.uk/WST/On-torchExtraction.pdf It details the advantages as well as the limitations. End of the day, HSE will not be happy...

Re: Electrical Safety in Drying Room

Hi Stew, well as always, it depends on the circumstances. How damp/wet does the drying room get? Are we talking laundry drying or Hiking/Outdoor Gear drying? Are you talking standard indoor BS1363 Plug/Socket? Is there an extractor to keep the moisture levels down? What sort of heaters are they, the...

Re: Welding fume and all things LEV and RPE

I'll just ask why you have ruled out 'on-tool' extraction? That is the preferred choice of the HSE as it saves any LEV/RPE. I currently have a similar issue with a client, where my concern is not so much protecting the Welders, they have plenty of options but others walking through the workshop thro...

Re: HSE TRAINEE INSPECTOR JOBS

I also suspect that a lot of people with a level 6 or higher qualification are already earning more than the salary listed for the role, and so there is no incentive to change for a lot of people. Depend if the variety of work and the Civil Servant other benefits are attractive enough. Decent pensi...

Re: HI

Hi RJP Glad to have you with us. You say you're "new to this field", is that new to H&S, or just new to the engineering world? Engineering can cover so many areas, there's often new things to discover as technology or substances evolve. Stuff we wouldn't dream of using now was common place in the 80s.

Morning All
Sunny and Blowy around here today, rain back again tomorrow but then the forecast looks like it's bright for the next week. So perhaps things are going to improve for a while.

Have a great day, whatever you're up to. .salut

Re: Electric Vehicles

Suppression is aimed at preventing or slowing down fire spread from the car and not extinguishing the fire. I think key factor are going to be response times, access and water supply for the attending FRS crews. An EV fire in a subterranean basement garage is going to be a difficult event. ...
