Re: Tuesday 14 July 2020

Good Morning Alexis and anyone else out there. I've just come back from meeting a client to finalise a few details so that I can put together a SDS for them. What a headache that is  . The person I'm dealing with at the client has unfortunately got some real family problems at the moment; cutt...

Re: Implementing health and safety

That's a really big question and to some extent it depends on the culture of the country you're in. In some countries the people are better at following rules than in others. In others, the whole country has a 'Whatever' attitude where nothing can ever get done properly. It depends on the leadership...

MSDS for TSDA

Afternoon all, so I've got a new client who has contacted me about branching out into manufacturing Hand Sanitizer (obviously an eye for an opportunity), presumably thinking it was an easy sideways step from their current main product, which is commercial drink/cocktail flavourings. The initial enqu...

Re: Thursday 2 July 2020

Hello All I hope life is treating you well these days, whatever that may mean to you. Everything is relative isn't it..... I'm busy writing up an audit report for a new client and I do wonder just what sort of 'Mate's Rates' were obtained for some of the work that's been done. Or whether it is untes...

Re: Hand Sanitiser Warning

Wow Mick, you've made my head hurt just reading your numbers. So according to the SDS, Ethanol, >50%, <100% Glycerol, >1%, < 2.5% Methanol, > 1% < 2.5% The ethanol could be anything between 50% and 100%. That's terrible. I'm about to start writing an SDS for a new client who is going online to manuf...

Re: Fire Doors & Cabin Hooks....

As I said, I would not rule out the reliance on a procedural control just it needs better justification than just "I have seen in use" elsewhere. I was not aware that magnetic door catches are only for corridors. They would seem ideal on entrance doors to an auditorium, especially if there are seve...

Re: Serious & Imminent Danger Procedure

I see that as a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. It would vary so much, depending on what the circumstances were. You speak of a 'College', but the Serious & Imminent Danger hazards can easily vary from one to another. A college that specialises in Office/Administrative skills, wil...

Re: Fire Doors & Cabin Hooks....

I am a bit surprised that people are willing to accept this practice so readily. I do agree it may be acceptable but procedural controls like this come at the very bottom of the hierarchy of risk controls and need to be fully justified. The stumbling block would be that an engineering solution (mag...

Re: Fire Doors & Cabin Hooks....

.... I will contact the fire risk assessor to challenge the remedial actions. Paul It is most likely that the Assessor will simply dig their heels in and say 'that's my recommendations live with it'. If that's the case it doesn't matter. You simply include the relevant staff actions/instructions in...

Re: Fire Doors & Cabin Hooks....

The system you are describing is something I have seen is use at large regional theatres which I have attended in recent years, with a capacity of the sort you are speaking of, over several floors, Stalls, and several Circles above them. The doors are closed until they are ready to let the audience ...
