Re: cleaning asbestos contaminated dusty area

Hi, Mark's attachement is the HSE guide. I think the problem here is bigger than just acsertaining if the works are licencsed or not. There is potential contamination over a large area and then anyone accessing the area contaminating clothes, vehicles etc. I would get a licensed contractor to come i...

Re: cleaning asbestos contaminated dusty area

Hi, I would suggest you bring in a consultant immediately to ascertain where the asbestos has come from and the potential spread of the contamination. I would get them to find out the scale/type of contamination, to decide if the works are licensed, or not. Remember it is typical of situations like ...

Re: RPE AND APF

In theory yes, as long as it is protecting against the right particulate.

What are you donig that requires RPE? The selection of equipment will be important to ensure it will be used, is effective and won't require too many replacements if the wrong filter type is used.

Re: Another Local Authority story...

Short term it is, long term probably not as you get a name for paying out.

This whole area needs addressing as part of the govt. H&S review

Re: Another Local Authority story...

Having worked in a London Council, these decisions are made due to the immense amount of PL claims made against them, and not having the time or resources to challenge them all. It isn't right but this is the defensive position the 'where there's a plan there's a claim' culture has created. The Coun...

Re: Advice!

The fact it is a school isn't actually that relevant - it is to do with a building and its structural integrity, a building surveyor should be instructed to advise. On the point of the fire precautions, again the fact it is a school isn't that important - it would need a fire risk assessment no matt...

Re: Health and Safety Sircom by Ben Elton

Having worked in a Council's H&S department I am really looking forward to this. If there are any mis-truths I think that will add to the comedy! It is also going to have a dig at councils in general.

Think this is going to be good!!
