Re: Grumbling about dishonesty

Good News. The branch manager wasn't really interested and neither were the police but, as a last resort before proceeding down the civil claims route, my daughter emailed the MD of the firm last week. She got back an out of office till monday reply. On Saturday the phone went and it was the MD hims...

Re: Grumbling about dishonesty

The manager of the firm now says he wants to sort it out through the insurance but the estimates for repair are around the £170 - £250 ball park making it uneconomical for my daughter to involve her insurance (She has a £500 excess). The driver still refudes to admit anything. Despite teh fact that ...

Grumbling about dishonesty

I don't normally post here but I need to grumble a bit. My daughter, a radiotherapist, took up a new post earlier this year and, as she needed to travel daily, I dug deep into savings to buy her a practically new little car, a nice shiny Ford Fiesta. She has been driving without incident ever since ...

Re: To pay or not to pay first aiders

I may be wrong. It was my belief that anyone holding a current full first aid certificate got an extra days leave per year.Closer scrutiny shows that this has been updated to one days leave for the duration of the 3 year certificate. Many of my workmates attended full first aid courses in their own ...

disposal of ionising detector.

Many years ago we disposed of hundreds of ionising detectors and replaced them with optical. At the time they were sent off via a disposal contractor. On a rebuilding job we have just found a room that was originally intended to be connected to the alarm but, as it was inert, it was removed from the...

Re: Evacuation of deaf visitors

I am in the camp that says Fire Wardens should pick up on deaf visitors in their sweep as defined in existing procedures. The mobile phone idea sounds great but, unfortunately, large areas of the premises have no mobile coverage. Present plans are that we will supply an output device to be connected...

Re: HSE Press Release - Cost Recovery Scheme

Sounds good in principle. I wonder though if HSE inspectors will be under pressure to find the most minor of infringements (Who among us can claim 100% compliance?) in order to invoke the cost recovery scheme?

Automatic fire alarm response lowered

My local Fire authority, and I believe others, have expressed an their intention to stop responding to Automatic Fire alarms in commercial premises until a fire is confirmed by someone on the ground. I believe other authorities are doing the same. Meetings Held On New Alarm Policy I can see this cau...

Re: Evacuation of deaf visitors

How many deaf staff or visitors do you have? This is a public hub with very high throughput. Taking average figures we could have 5,000+ people who are deaf or hard of hearing per day and 600 with epilepsy. Of these 600 we could expect 6 to have photosensitive epilepsy and at least one person who i...
