Re: Lamp Shade Safety

Hi Mick,

You need to submit one of the completed shades to a lab and have it tested to be sure. You cannot second guess the continued safety of a product once you have made material changes to it.

Cheers

Re: Dixon's Chimney Incident

I think they ruled out a helicopter because of the down draught. The poor man was upside down and caught by his foot at the top of the ladder and they must have been worried they might dislodge him.

Re: How to Stay on Top of a Busy and Stressful Workload

Hi Messy All good advice so far. You have to recognise the value of your own labour, don't be working for free. I can empathise, my department has been cut by more than 40% since 2010 but the workload isn't shrinking! Make sure you don't end up on the wrong end of GDPR with your plastic box storage....

Re: Examples / case law/ case studies (recent) of consequences of not following procedures

What is pretty consistent or more likely than not, its the company pleads guilty to an offence, but it is often 3-5 years after the event. I'm sometimes left wondering if they plead not because of overwhelming evidence but through attrition and just wanting closure. The HSE will not, so far as I'm ...

Re: Expected but disappointed

Hi CAD, Please don't beat yourself up over this. You are disappointed, of course you are but you're not going to let it beat you, you're going to-re-group and crack it second time round. It sounds like your time management was fine and there are lots of good exam tips above. I might add that getting...

Re: Commom / statue law

Some statute law includes civil sanctions which do not constitute a criminal offence, usually for environmental matters. See the Regulatory Enforcement and Sanctions Act 2008, for example.

Re: Commom / statue law

Common law gets used for some criminal offences in England, murder and manslaughter being good examples. H&S criminal law is covered by statute. There are lots of civil cases which use statute law but if you're talking specifically about H&S, in relation to an injured person you'd be using co...

Re: Grease extraction System

If you contact your local food hygiene team in the environmental health department they'll be able to give you some advice. You're right, there are hygiene as well as fire safety aspects to this.

Congratulations! My husband had pyloric stenosis and was operated on at 6 weeks of age, more than 60 years ago. He never had any trouble at all after his op so let's hope little Noah is the same x

Re: Revoked Driving Licence

Yep, you've got yourself a liar. I'd report him. Probably nothing will happen, but you've done your bit if it does. If he's coming back to your place I'd double-check any other paperwork he's given you.

Re: GDPR

Stephen,

I haven't heard anything about an employee threshold.

Have you read the guidance issue by the ICO?

https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/gu ... tion-gdpr/

Still a lot to wade through but at least it's straight from the horse's mouth, as it were.

Re: Wiil this course sink in.

Hi Rob,

Yes it will get better once you get used to the NEBOSH way of wording questions. NGC1 is a bit heavy going if you've never done any law before, NG2 and NG3 will be easier if you have more practical leanings. Lots of good resources and shared experience on here. Good luck with it.
