Fancy a Career as a Senior Fire Officer Without the Faff of Starting at the Bottom?

Fancy a career in the fire service, but can't be bothered about starting at the bottom and learning your trade working on a fire station? No way would you want to wear breathing apparatus in a burning building or work for 6 hours in a burning field of standing corn? More suited to a spreadsheet but ...

Re: Friday 5 August 2022

I have had a lazy morning watching scaffolders opposite my house and wondering are these one-man-band scaffolding companies the last of the cowboys on sites now? No hard hats (of course), no WAH lanyards, one had no gloves, and their truck had no WAH safety kit - juts a precarious tightrope walk alo...

Re: Monday 25 July 2022

Sadly my weekend has been.wrecked by contracting covid. Ok I am fortunate I have this recent variant which is less life threatening than the version that hospitalised so many, but I do feel pretty grim. The persistent cough has ripped my throat up, hurt my chest and stopped me sleeping and the resul...

Re: Child safeguarding

I would welcome a few snowflakes at the moment, although in this heat it would be hard work clearing the path Stephen - if you are still around (I hope so), if you are referring to the removal of a word by Jack on June 14th, do you honestly think that can be described as snowflake incident? Really? ...

I would definitely have a system in place for ensuring the fans are switched off overnight.

Some of the cheaper fans definitely do not like to be run continuously for 24hrs and may become overheated - not great news if in an unoccupied workplace at 3am

Re: Safety over the years

I remember seeing John Noakes climb the column but simply cannot believe it was in 1977, as it feels much older!! Its definitely a Fred Dibnah type set up and to be fair, he started his TV career around that time. I get somewhat irritated by people (usually Daily Mail or Express Readers) who grumble...

Up and running (more a jog actually) Jogging? I am well impressed clapclap I have just had a 5 minute crawling race with my 1 year old grandson and I feel I have ran a marathon 😉 I am busy stretching my few hours of CPD into a huge digest of learning as I have abandoned it for far too long . ...

Re: Monday 11 July 2022

The water authorities are being very quiet down south (or maybe they can't grab the headlines over all this political stuff) but things are beginning to look very yellow and the ground is cracking Some rivers near me are very low at the moment. I spoke to a Park Patrol fella at a local country park ...

IMHO, cheap, mass produced lithium batteries are the new asbestos, but instead of being a long term silent killer where the risks were not known about for years, these batteries are well known to cause dramatic and rapidly developing fires. So quickly do these fires spread, that tried and tested bui...

Re: Mezzanine Floors

I cannot tell you the amount of rows, sorry, professional debates I have had with Town Hall jobsworths. You have my sympathy My local pharmacy /corner shop was also licensed for alcohol sales. With booze and drugs, security was high on their agenda The LA sent a pillock around to.inspect the buildin...
