Re: Monday - 25 March 2024

Morning all. It looks like the NHS is getting something right up your neck of the woods. Meanwhile down souf , I have had a 3rd attempt ti get an emergency GP appointment without success. All I want is antibiotics and could have been 96 hours into the course by now I will try again tomorrow or be fo...

Re: Friday - 22 March 2024

Sadly it's a bit grim down London way I am taking it easy as I have an eye infection (must get this done before Mrs Messy sees me on my phone) I woke up 3.30 in pain and couldn't open my left eye. There was nothing I could do so sneaked out leaving my wife sleeping and took a cab to my local A&E...

Re: Changing the use of a fire door

I get the feeling Messy not a builder or ever looked at this issue in practical terms. Callum got a budget and needs to stick to it. its far cheaper to re hang the door so it opens inwards and fit a new lock, than start fitting new push bar. He can keep the fire exit sign. At the end of the day, it...

Re: Changing the use of a fire door

Of course we don't know the use or size of the building referred to in the OP's question, but there's no need to go straight to electronically locked final exit doors Simple standard door furniture with thumbturn or lever handle inside and a coded lock externally (possibly mechanical) may suffice fo...

Re: Changing the use of a fire door

I think we need to be careful with the description of this door. A fire door is one constructed from fire resistant materials and is installed as part of the fire separation in a building I believe the door you refer to is a fire exit door. They do not usually need to be fire resisting. Only where t...

Re: New In Post - FRA

Apologies Goldy, but its difficult to give even a guesstimate price for this work without much more info Did your fire safety consultant give you a standard to which the fire barrier should meet, even a time? (30 mins/60 mins)? My advice is to seek some additional quotes and compare them. Don't forg...

Re: When does your health and safety go out the window?

Home DIY sometimes does stray across the acceptability threshold I am embarrassed to admit. My ladder to my flat roof on my extension isnt quite long enough which leads to the dangling the legs over the edge trying to find the head of the ladder trick  And dont look at my doors in my house ove...

Re: Trial findings of Gross Negligence for migrant deaths

Whilst I accept some of your points, I think cuts to immigration process workers leading to huge delays in asylum claims and a queue of 170,000 asylum seekers waiting 83 weeks for a yes/no is also a big factor There's effectively no 'safe route' for migrants now, which is why they risk the boats Its...

Re: The weight of death !!

Be careful, it might be on a £ per kilo basis!!!!

I blame Finnair (or Thinnair) weighing passengers with their luggage for starting all this ;)

I am glad I am not a juror on that case

Once again, the true villains - the smugglers - drive off in their Mercs to earn even more money next time :(
