Re: Housing Association

Paul I wish I could help sir, but this is the what happens in the real world away from the cozy offices of those who legislate. Giving the landlord the responsibility for evacuating a non ambulant person from their home is often unworkable - as this example perhaps proves. There will be 1000s of peo...

Re: Time to clear buildings, do a sweep, query

Its nonsense. Even the concept of 1 fire Marshall being involved in a sweep is pathetic and demonstrates the lack of knowledge of this fool*. Best practice is for those undertaking a sweep to work at least in pairs for obvious safety reasons. OK, it could be a misunderstanding by the person who told...

Re: Loft hatches

Why be steered by ADB and FRA guidance? If in your professional opinion, the PHE, the mobility impairments/vulnerability of the residents, the expected speed of fire spread, staff numbers (esp at night) all pushes towards FR loft hatches to provide a resilient fire compartment, then advise it. Green...

Re: Regulations on open fires in pubs

There is definitely no regulations or legislation prohibiting this ridiculous idea. The fire risk assessment will definitely need to be reviewed and control measures introduced to protect the public - many of who will be drunk, some will be wearing highly combustible clothing and hairspray etc. Its ...

Re: Hips

I am afraid while lots of bits of mine are falling off or going mouldy, my hip seems to have survived so far. My mother in law had it done a few years back and was very miserable and grumbled a lot soon after being discharged - we were suprised she was back to normal so quickly 😉 Seriously she was v...

I am not sure what you mean

The status of a colleague or friend or a diagnosis of issues you are having?
Or some workplace tool or process?

Re: Sonic door holders

Paul. That's is exactly the issue Heat detectors will always react more slowly and are generally used to prevent false fire alarm actuation (kitchens, boiler rooms, hotel bedroons) Going off the trail a little there...I didnt think hotel bedrooms could have heat detectors any more? You may be right...

Re: Gas cylinder storage from a building

I agree with Blackstone, this gas is a pain to use, handle and store. plus in a fire, its very bad new We carried out a risk assessment and eventually removed all acetylene from our sites It became clear during the RA that the main reason for using it ranged from "we have always used it" t...

Re: Sonic door holders

I am not a fan of dorgards and similar acoustic door holders. I cannot ever see them being 'equal or better' than a hardwired alternative. But where the cost of installing or especially retrofitting magnetic door holders makes it a non starter, then a dorgard is a million times better than a wedge!!...
