Re: Fire - Unit D

I would argue that you can have fire as a hazard, after all it has the 'potential to cause harm' and that is the definition of a hazard. I think we sometimes get caught up with terminology and overlook the real reason for the risk assessment in the first place. On some risk assessments they are wor...

Re: Leaving the forces.

Hi Craig Having served in the military I would disagree with you that you have no experience. I would say that you have a lot of experience and have more to offer than you know. Look at what you have been doing in the military and how these could apply to health and safety. I am sure there will be l...

Re: fire marshals

I usually start from scratch whenever I produce these for a client. Each employer is different in what they want their fire marshal's to do. Some want them to sweep the area and then leave the building, some want them to check specific areas, take a roll call and close windows and doors. Then there ...

Re: Severing a hazard or a risk?

It seems there are a lot of people out there trying to confuse others when it comes to risk assessment. A 'Hazard' is something that has the potential to cause harm i.e. The moving blade on a bandsaw. A 'Consequence' of contact with that blade could be 'Severing' The 'Risk' is the 'Likelihood' of co...

Re: Inspections and FFI

Hi Keith, If I were you I would download the information on FFI from the HSE website. They are supposed to advise you that they have discovered a material breach and that they will be conducting the remainder of the visit under FFI or that they will be writing to you under FFI. If they believe that ...

This clearly sets out the responsibility. You definitely need to see the lease to see what was included in there in respect of the Asbestos Management.

Re: Consultancy - what level of Qualification & Experience?

Many years ago I did a Fellowship in Law and as a result was entitled to use the letters after my name but then I let the membership lapse because they had put the prices up so much and I was not working in that field. When I later tried to re-register for my membership they wanted me to pay the pre...

Re: Printing problems

I would agree with wendolene 26. Whenever I have to print a booklet I always save as a PDF and then print as a booklet. In Word you can do it by choosing to print multiple pages per sheet, but by far the PDF route is the best.

This is a brilliant resource, I am a First Aid Instructor and would love to have iPads for everyone on the course so that they could all use these simulators.

Re: To RIDDOR or NOT to RIDDOR

I would definitely RIDDOR this one, it is better to make the report than risk the fine for late or non reporting.
