Re: Health Questionairre
I think you need to identify what you want to address and why? Often pre work questionnaires identify areas of support which may be required to provide people with the tools etc to do their job. I would be careful not to fall foul of the pitfalls of equality laws with this type of questionnaire, esp...

Re: Mole-ploughing.. is there a qualification?
Does it refer to the 'mole' in drainage etc for making little channels for cables/ ducting? In which case it will definitely need training on the equipment being used but not a qualification per se as far as I know. Additional training may be electrical load training to size the cables if for electr...

Re: Working at Height and Permits
Hello Safety, In my previous role I used to use the risk assessments for the task to determine when we used permits to work. We didn't do roof work but all our jobs involved working at height as the company did sewage treatment plant servicing, over large holes, and then there were some sites where ...

Re: Heating of rest areas.
The ventilation of workplaces due to Covid is the government advice- therefore it isn't just people's opinions but also the government advice which is being implemented when opening windows (depending on how efficient air con etc is). People with flu shouldn't be at work anyway but from statistics I...

Re: IOSH South East Branch
Hi GLen,
Makes sense, it is hard sometimes with the IOSH groups to know the best one for your location.
I just thought I would throw the suggestion out there, but being the other side of the Dartford Tunnel I agree with you regarding the journey being a nasty one.

Dixon's Chimney Incident
Afternoon folks, I don't know if people saw the articles about the man who got trapped at the top of the 290 ft chimney (https://metro.co.uk/2019/10/28/police-try-rescue-man-trapped-290ft-air-giant-chimney-10996398/). Tragically he died yesterday during the rescue. From reports this morning, the lad...

Re: IOSH South East Branch
I am a member of the Thames Valley Branch of IOSH but not been to a meeting- maybe once I resurface from the assignment, get my CV sorted and can start looking for a new job. Our page is here: https://www.iosh.com/membership/our-membership-network/our-branches/thames-valley-branch/ which, depending ...

Re: Near Miss Phone App
GDPR shouldn't be an issue- there is specific allowance made for accident reporting. However, if the issue is the fact their details could be shared globally or not those within the relevant teams etc, then how about a system which saves the users detail but, for general access then creates an anony...

Re: Machine safety — Safety distances
As long as his head is only in his hands, and he is not threatening to put his head within the safety distance of a mixer. In all honesty- this is one of those issues which shows how complex health and safety can be- and how guarding can sometimes seem practicable but if it prevents the work from be...

Re: NCRQ HSD1 Complete
Hello Anders, Good luck with HSD2- the second book is a step up from the 1st, but in a good way. Remember to read the assignment carefully, make sure you are answering what they are asking and check the required outcomes for the assignment. Also- remember to use your tutors. Most people struggling s...

Re: Air monitoring frequency
I have just been reading about COSHH in my NCRQ HSD 3, Chapter 2 (Hazardous substances II) , and I am sure it said somewhere annual or as advised by your insurance company- therefore I would maybe contact them to check what they are requesting. Unless I dreamt it- which is possible after doing late ...
