Need a pointer or two...

I've been asked to produce a suite of new Risk Assessment templates: HAZOP Multi-Level Risk Assessment (specifically 4 layers) HACCP Now HAZOP I can do, no problem. HACCP seems to be something to do with food safety, and according to Google a multi-level RA is a fairly vague concept which may have s...

Re: RPE Inspection

It's quite a sneaky little requirement that not many people I've spoken to seem to really know about. It was certainly new to the suppliers, who do the annual servicing, and the manufacturers don't seem to be fully aware either. Might have to just have a stab at putting together a training pack myse...

RPE Inspection

Hi all Looking for some advice on doing monthly RPE Thorough Examinations (COSHH Reg 9.3). HSG 53 says these examinations should be carried out by a trained person, I've found an RPE Competent Person course from UKATA, but I'm struggling to find anyone locally that provides it (I'm in Aberdeen). Is ...

Re: Exoskeletons

I'll be giving Ekso Bionics a call if I ever need to expel an alien queen through an airlock. More to the point, I agree with the points raised above and I'm also wondering how much training users are being given. We all know about training workers in good manual handling practices and only lifting ...

Re: Seatbelt and mobile phone use surveys: 2017

No chance in hell every other driver is using their phone. Just a ridiculous concept. As for using your phone to play music. Depends on where the phone is located imo. Ifs its up on the dash and within your field of peripheral vision then it is absoluetly no different to people using their radio. R...

Re: Seatbelt and mobile phone use surveys: 2017

There's been times I've been out on the motorbike and have a better view into cars where I'd put the mobile phone use figure somewhere between 30% and 50%. Certainly in town. Sitting that bit higher up means you can see everyone texting with the phone in their lap. Absolute rubbish. Every other dri...

I'm imagining an HSE inspector visiting site after a RIDDOR, discovering the violence was consensual and just quietly packing away his wee notebook.

Re: Weld Fume COSHH Assessment

That's great, QS, thanks for the info. Definitely gives me more of an idea of what's present in the fumes so I have a bit more direction for the assessment.

Weld Fume COSHH Assessment

Hi all Looking for some pointers. I've been tasked with writing a COSHH Assessment for welding fumes in our fabrication shop, and in 2 days of trying to find out exactly what fumes are created by all the different base metals, fillers, process gases etc, all I've been able to ascertain is that it de...

Re: Cutting fluids/coolants

Thanks, weekly sounds good to me. We already do health surveillance for the machine shop guys, but I don't think lung function's included, as far as I know it's just skin. I'll definitely get HR to look into that.

Thanks again
