Hmm. I'm not entirely sure I agree.
Don't get me wrong, I do hope that particular person does indeed lose their job, but at the same time, I frequently post things with no professional aspect on social media, because my social media profile is completely detached from my profession. Now these ...

Re: Fire door for semi-external meter cupboard
'Stay put': we could maintain a 'stay put' policy, given the building's compartmentation, but our evacuation plan directs residents to evacuate. The build is just two stories, two flats per floor, so there is unlikely to be a conflict between residents leaving the building and the arrival of ...

Re: Just starting out
I was just wondering if there are any tips you have for me to get a head start on the course. I've been watching a few YouTube videos on Risk Assessments (which I'm yet to practice), but is there anything in particular I could get my head around before I start the course so I go in with a bit of an ...

Re: RIDDOR - Over-seven-day incapacitation of a worker
any help and advice would be very helpful as I cannot see or find any clear guidance on this.
As always, my advice with anything RIDDOR is to not overthink it. RIDDOR is just the HSE's way of finding out about accidents that might be worth them investigating.
The employee went off due to an ...

Here was I, thinking that H&S was important for legal, financial and moral reasons. Such a naïve soul that I am.1804 wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2025 5:47 pmI get the cynicism of avoiding the 2nd staircase but if it's legal who gives a proverbial?

Re: Developer Under Attack for 'Unethical'- but Legally Complaint Building!!
I don't really understand how the internal structures work. Looks like the Beeb is attributing the "shocking" quote to the FBU and the "spirit" quote to the LFB, but I don't really know how enmeshed those two would really be.

Re: Fire Marshall - Sweep?
I used to get all fire marshals to meet at the fire panel. At that point, the senior person present would assume charge. They would stay by the panel and send the others off in teams of two to each area, including the location of the fire activation (assuming the trigger was an identifiable call ...

Re: Developer Under Attack for 'Unethical'- but Legally Complaint Building!!
I guess it's the FBU saying this rather than the FRS?
More opinion piece than anything else. They aren't wrong in that it's a shrewd and money-based approach, but if they are genuinely surprised by that, then I'm not sure what world they've been living in up to this point.

Re: Building Evac Procedure
Depending on their response, how aware they are of your feelings and frankly, how much you like your job, I would be considering an anonymous phone call to the local fire brigade. I'm sure the FRS would be happy to conduct a random familiarisation visit to the premises and give some pointers to the ...

Re: Building Evac Procedure
As described, that's an utter mess.
Are staff expected to sit at their desks while the alarms are ringing, until told (or emailled!?) to evacuate?
How are building management determining if real or false? How long does this take?

What about psychological truama from an incident linked to poor H&S culture?
Say a machine explodes on an operator through ill maintenance or any preventative maintenance and was defective repeatedly reported to no avail.
The person has no physical injuries.
However the person is traumatised by it ...
