Re: Fire evacuation dilemma
I'm realised that I never came back to update on how this problem was finally resolved, so here I am :) It was an absolute nightmare to do but I'm in a place where I'm happy with the procedures and it's been tested with fire drills (albeit during quieter times so far). I ended up creating three diff...

Re: Have you risk assessed everything?
I was interested in this one as it is local to me. We don't have gates like these in operation but I'll be honest and say I wouldn't expect a RA or SSOW for their operation although now I'm doubting myself. Have we risk assessed everything indeed.

Re: New member of staff in my SHEQ team - newstarter plan for first week? 2 weeks
Thinking back to when I started my current role almost two years ago, I agree that getting them on the ground to start building relationships with staff is the way to go. Maybe have them shadowing team leaders or equivalent. I wouldn't necessarily go with them as you want them to build those relatio...

Did you have any luck with this TWDB? I'm currently looking for something similar.

RAAC Safety concerns
Surprised not to see topics on this already unless I've missed them. Anyone else dealing with the current situation on RAAC in public buildings? Although the main headlines are talking about schools, a number of other public buildings have the same situation. My employer is one of them. We have a st...

Re: Morrisons fined £3.5 million over death of employee case
I had similar thoughts around PEEPs aswell Messy. There must be more to this in terms of detail, as the key element I can find is about the stairs, and the employee having to use them to access the staff lockers. A locker should have been put for him on the ground floor to avoid the need the access ...

Morrisons fined £3.5 million over death of employee case
I was interested in this case as it's local to me, but the outcome has raised a lot of questions in my head. I'm curious what others think Morrison's should have done more in this instance? https://www.shponline.co.uk/in-court/morrisons-fined-3-5-million-over-death-of-employee/?utm_source=feedotter&...

Re: Fire evacuation dilemma
Thanks again both! I've checked our Ents license and the only referral to FRA is around the capacity of the building.
I've organised staff training since my last post, and I'll report back with how I manage to resolve this

Re: Fire evacuation dilemma
Thanks both, really helpful to talk it through :) R.e. assembly points, I see the point about not needing them if we have enough staff to sweep the building, which we don't. Ultimately this all boils down to a lack of staff doesn't it. To answer some other questions, yes we do have an entertainment ...

Re: Fire evacuation dilemma
Hi witsd - yes it is 3 staff running the entire building. For context the cinema is a small single screen and the cafe is tiny (and doesn't do any actual cooking) so it's not a big operation like Cineworld etc.

Re: Fire evacuation dilemma
Hi Messy, thank you for your reply! I agree that the FRA is lazy - it does say that the current assembly point is sufficient, which it is, but makes no mention of the other two exit points and how they should be managed. Regarding PEEPs, the site currently doesn't have any and this has been identifi...

Fire evacuation dilemma
Morning everyone, I've recently started a new post and am trying to get my head round one of the buildings in terms of their fire evacuation. It's a public building in a city centre, by day it does corporate hires plus a cinema and cafe. By night it's a gig venue plus cinema and bar. Overall capacit...
