Re: Accident Investigation
I did a re enactment of the events which did give something. He insisted that he was just brushed past it but every time he went to try he kept putting his hand on it so that proved to be different. He is, however, adamant that the rest of it is how he said. I'll keep going, thanks for the advice guys

Accident Investigation
I have a situation and am looking for advice or opinions. I am investigating and incident at work which led to an injury. Due to the time take off by the employee it became RIDDOR reportable. I interviewed him on his return to get his recollection of events. He was very clear on what happened. The o...

Re: Asbestos Awareness Training
OK here's another thing. there are so many companies out there offering training, which one do I use? I've gone with UKATA registered so far but my boss has said that clients are asking for UKAS. We all know that most clients hear a little knowledge and then run with it like it's the word of their p...

Asbestos Awareness Training
Just a quick question to gather opinions. Asbestos Awareness E Learning - Training or Refresher? I have had both classroom training and e learning and found them to be both the same. In both I made notes and took tests. In both I got certificates. In both I looked at pictures of Asbestos. The conten...

Competency
This one I think is going to be a doozy. Everywhere I look for details and requirements for various functions all I see is that the person should be competent. Hardly anywhere is there a requirement for an actual named qualification. There are exceptions to this rule but they are few and far between...

Re: Emergency Lighting
Thanks for the input chaps, I too would like to keep it simple. The problem is primarily the basement. Whilst there is a tiny bit of natural light during the day it still requires more lighting down there. The building itself is now enclosed with scaffold that is sheeted thereby reducing even furthe...

Emergency Lighting
Looking for some guidance here or even better a product. We have a need for emergency lighting on site. It will all be temporary as it's a refurb and the client doesn't want nasty big lights spoiling his finished article. I have found some that will do the job but here is the tricky bit. At night we...

Re: Method Statements
If I am running a large site with many operatives do I have to get every single operative to sign a copy of every single Risk Assessment and Method Statement? Could I not just sit them down with a file of the relevant RAMS and then get them to sign to say they had read and understood them all?

Method Statements
Does anyone out there have a good method statement template? I have seen so many different examples and none of them seem to quite hit the spot for me. For instance do i really have to have the address of where the process is taking place, the duration? It seems that everybody and the cat has to sig...

Asbestos Sampling
Working in older properties there is the ever present risk of Asbestos. From experience most operatives can tell if what they are going to cut into is probably an ACM or not. Now this is the tricky bit. If I'm not sure as to what lies underneath the surface can I take a small sample myself to gain f...

Re: new to HS
I self funded through the NEBOSH Construction cert hoping for a better career than I had. A year into my new career the contract folded leaving me unemployed in the middle of a recession, the resulting stress coupled with my already high blood pressure caused me to have a stroke. It took me five yea...
