Re: Using AI for your H&S role ?
I have ChatGPT open on a tab on my browser nearly all the time. I use it when writing reports, proposals, papers, LinkedIn posts. I usually put in a paragraph and ask it to rewrite or 'make more impactful.' Sometimes it will provide sentances or paragraphs that I can use directly. Sometimes it may j...

Re: Convincing a client of a bad idea? Any ideas?
I guess it is fair to say that diesel generator fires are pretty rare. There must be hundreds of thousands running at any time around the world at any time. But they do happen. Ship engine fires may be used as an example. However, it is the common cause failures you need to focus on if loss of servi...

Re: Isolation guidance - Puzzling?
The competent person is the person doing the self isolation. They have to be proven competent to do a self isolation. There may be a permit issued for the job but there would be no isolation certificate or second checking. HSG 253 does not refer to personal locks. That has come from LOTO, originally...

Re: Permit to Work - Length of issue
As others have said it will depend on how you manage the work. I would say a 24 hour duration is pretty pointless because no one will be working for that duration. It makes far more sense to require a reissue or revalidation after any break in the work (i.e. end of shift or working day).

Re: Isolation guidance - Puzzling?
My interpretation of the guide is that this is a dispensation where "own isolations" do not require a formal isolation certificate, locks, tags etc. It is intended for low risk situations and is mostly used for instrument technicians carrying out calibrations, process operators changing a ...

Re: HSL safety climate tool - any other alternatives that anyone has used?
Safety culture is closely related to my area of speciality and I have followed the dialogue around it for 25 years. My observation is that the ideas really have not progressed over that time and my conclusion is that initiatives that attempt to manage safety culture in its own right have very little...

This video shows you causal tree analysis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMLyHNoOgZ4
Causal trees are a great for carrying out root cause analysis.
I made the video a long time ago and some people complain about the sound quality. I need to redo it but most people find it OK.

Google RFID site access. May give you some ideas. I don't know anything about this company but I would think it could be suitable for you https://gaorfid.com/construction-site-access-control-system/ If you don't know, RFID = Radio Frequency Identification. If you watch the triathlon at the Olympics ...

Re: Bedroom doors opening on to stairs
It is not unreasonable for findings from risk assessments to change over time as new information becomes available. I wonder if this new observation is the result of findings from Grenfell? Whatever the reason, the person doing the FRA should give you the information you need to decide if the risk i...

Re: Lone worker HOC
This is a great example of how existing safety tools/methods can help us think objectively about safety, and dare I say make us think "outside of the box." Just remember that all tools have their limitations. You can knock a screw into a piece of wood with a hammer, but it is not very effe...
