Re: Time to clear buildings, do a sweep, query

That's not for actual sweeps during an evacuation, but for Centre Security to do a sweep on a silent alarm, before they sound the main alarm.... https://www.theccd.ie/media/appendicies_1.pdf Ours would be similar, a few minutes where its not silent, they do a "mr whatever to reception" de...

Re: Time to clear buildings, do a sweep, query

Its nonsense. Even the concept of 1 fire Marshall being involved in a sweep is pathetic and demonstrates the lack of knowledge of this fool*. Best practice is for those undertaking a sweep to work at least in pairs for obvious safety reasons. OK, it could be a misunderstanding by the person who tol...

Re: Sport and HASAWA

There is a duty of care for sure. People who engage in sport are supposed to do so under informed consent and accept the inherent risks involved. However, there have been instances of professional sports not adequately informing players of risks, hence the lawsuits against the NFL regarding concussi...

Time to clear buildings, do a sweep, query

I've just had someone come back off of a course (dont know what it was about) but they've said the person teaching the course, apparently a "fire inspector" told them that sweeps of the building must take no more than a minute, that they should go away and test their procedures and for eve...

Re: Would you consider this lifting equipment?

The coach takes the weight. Imagine a rope going from the coach, up to a pulley, and down to the skater. The pulley is suspended from a steel cable. It works like this. Obviously this is a beginner, but better skaters wil jump higher for longer with the coach supporting them. The cable will be takin...

Re: Would you consider this lifting equipment?

Thanks. The coachs are self employed but do carry out work for the rink under contract. The rink provides them with the harness system. I dont recall it being mentioned that it was used on any rink provided courses however, only private lessons. I agree that it is not used for lifting in the same wa...

Would you consider this lifting equipment?

An ice Rink has a harness they use to help figure skaters learn to jump. It consists of a steel cable strung between two points that supports another cable on a pulley system. One end is attached to the harness a skater wears and the other is held by the coach. As the skater jumps, the coach pulls t...

Re: coats for rainy weather

Yes you should have spares in stock. You dont need many but you should have some, especially if the company is caught up with silly things like logos so they cant just say buy a new jacker from B&Q and claim it back. Yes you should provide waterproof trousers in my opinion. Driving in wet trouse...

Re: Huge fire at Grenfell Tower block

Thats the catch isn't it with all this "guidance" stuff. Its very much open to interpretation and done in a way that if something goes wrong their name isnt rubber stamped as 'you MUST do this' and they can move the goal posts around and say you got it wrong. I've spoken with lawyers befor...

Accident Investigations. They're are interesting and can highlight every aspect of Health and Safety from cause to consequence. If you have one where management decisions were made that contributed to the accident so much the better. You can even do interactive parts, getting them to discuss various...

Re: Deflated

I'd love to go self employed, but two concerns that stop me are: Being unable to build a client base because I am no salesman, and, I know the client base, and they are a tick box industry that are no interested in real health and safety, just the bare minimum that will protect them in court. That a...
