Re: Accidents out of work, do you analyse the impact on your employees & families?

Its an interesting question - have enjoyed reading the replies thus far.... Makes me then ask myself : 1) Are employees from a company that has a well developed and accepted safety culture / system more safety aware outside work, than other employees with poor H&S at work? I would like to think ...

RPA Life - Explaining the problem you don't have

Yo All Hope you do not mind me posting a link to my first significant blog post on the new Ionactive website site (radiation safety related). "RPA Life - The problem you don't have". Not sure what really prompted me to write this blog entry, and I do not want to do myself out of my Radiati...

Re: Learning Occupational Health by Experiencing Risks (LOcHER)

Excellent! Gave that a good read and visited the supporting material. Its great you and your company are supporting this - thinking and doing 'outside the box' is something I have experienced a number of times up at your company (the Stroke awareness session comes to mind). Training methods and gett...

OLD (new) member - radiation.... safety

Yo all... I am actually an old member - very old :) But I have not been on here for some time, and I have frankly ignored a lot of social media during my day job for a number of years - now I need to make amends. Do not want to risk spamming the timeline - other than to say if any of you good folks ...

Re: Risk Comparison

I did find it interesting, although a lot of the technical stuff wooshed straight over my head. In the piece about "A is for Atom" it's mentioned that they talked about nuclear planes as if they were just around the corner, interestingly in the late 50s and early 60s the russians did expe...

Risk Comparison

Yo all. Thought you might like the following: http://www.ionactive.co.uk/blog.html I am looking at risk comparison and exploring if it is any use when looking at ionising radiation. I also look at my own problems with flying and discuss if risk comparison would do me any good. Hope you find it inter...

Re: Misuse of safety signs / labels / signs etc

Thanks all for comments.... I tend to agree the packaging is a give away - not sure anyone would be worried. However, I think the actual product itself could be mistaken for something its not - the door bell in particular. The impression I get is that there is nothing in specific signage / label leg...

Maybe take a picture and upload it on to here so we could all see and comment Red Do not have my camera too hand, but here is an example: http://www.anythingradioactive.com/tshirts.htm#Nuclear%20Doorbell (Click on the top right ICON to get a bigger picture of the door bell) I do not want to make a ...

Misuse of safety signs / labels / signs etc

Hi All. I am going to be writing a blog article soon, part of which will look at products that are sold 'for amusement' / toys etc but which have safety signage as part of the product. One example, believe it or not (!), is a Nuclear Door Bell. This has a remote 'nuke button' and an alarm - both of ...

Organisations Using Ionising Radiation Enhance Safety

Morning All.. Do not get out much ... at least to this forum as much as I should ... but working in my specific area means I'm far left field for much of the time! Anyway, it is not often that the media - anywhere in the world - provides a positive spin on using ionising radiation, and especially wh...

Goal Setting vs Prescriptive Safety Legislation

Greetings All. I often come across differences between Goal Setting and Prescriptive Legislation when dealing with radiation protection issues. This came up again last night when discussing with a client the 'length of a tunnel' required for x-ray screening equipment (e.g. for security). This remind...

Re: School lab that sparked fears of nuclear explosion

Sounds like typical sensationalised media garbage to sell papers. Of course the emergency services err on the side of caution. This was probably nothing more than an old smoke detector or a piece of granite that fell out of a council skip in Aberdeen. :D For more thoughts and reflection, read my la...
