RPE for bad smells

Post by Safety »

Morning all .salut

I need to look to source some RPE for colleagues who are handling raw animal stomachs, the RPE is to remove the smell.

Anyone any suggestions on what would be the best to use that will remove all smells? .scratch

An interesting question. Not sure RPE always takes away odour (smell).

My first port of call would be my RPE supplier (if you have one) or PPE supplier who can recommend what you need based on a Risk Assessment.

There is also HSG 53, but that wont recommend what type suits smell/odour, where as the RPE/PPE provider will be better versed to assist.

Maybe other members will have a type/brand recommendation that they have used, based on similar work/experience.

Thanks WillPool, it is a difficult one, I have been searching on the Internet to try and find something and the nearest I can find is the Charcoal Activated Filter Face Masks which state they can remove odours....

Although it doesn't specifically answer your question for abattoirs I suspect much of what is covered in this USA article will be relevant and I suspect you will find UK suppliers of the PPE they suggest?

You might also find some useful info in amongst the HSE info at https://www.hse.gov.uk/food/slaughter.htm

I work with Sewage now. Ive yet to find a mask that gets rid of the smell, or the taste (cos it floats around in the air)

A couple of fizzy pez tablets up the nose would be my advice. Best smell ever.
