RIDDOR

Post by MickG »

Hi all

We had a minor accident on site a few days ago. The IP attended hospital, was patched up and discharged. There will be no lasting damage thankfully. He has not been back to work, other than to submit accident details and help with our internal investigation. Today he has handed in a sick note for anxiety. It only states Anxiety, it doesnt specify that its anxiety as a result of the accident (but could be), however, he will be off for more than 7 days since the accident.
Does this now become RIDDOR reportable?

Thanks

Site manager contacted the IP to see how he was doing. IP said that the anxiety was not due to the accident. We've therefore not reported.
My feeling is that if the anxiety was as a result of the accient, then it should be reported.

MickG - - good that you got in touch with the IP but it should be standard practice to support your people that are off sick. Or at least keep in touch.
If you think safety is a pain, try a leg fracture.
