RIDDOR. Report or not...

Post by Monkeymick »

Hey All

We have a staff member who has suffered an apparent manual handling injury at work, but continued to work for 2 days before going off sick.

They are now likely to be off for more than 7 days - allegedly due to the man handling incident.

Would this be reportable under the 7 day rule, even if the 7 days don't immediately follow the incident? Regulations seem to suggest so, but are just vague enough to introduce an element of doubt!

How would you approach this?

Cheers

Wait until they are off 7 days then report, noting that they worked for 2 days immediately after the injury then went off work

I agree, however I would be making sure the person in question was asked about the circumstances. I'm not saying there is anything fishy but the fact that there has been a delay between the incident and the absence would raise concerns.
So when the whole world is safe..............what are we going to do then?

Thank you very much! I appreciate your input!

I shall report as soon as the 7 day marker is hit, with all relevant info re: existing back injury, and continuing to work before going sick...

Cheers
