Gone blank and don't have time to research so hoping a quick response with relevant technical reference point may be provided. I need the maximum permissible distance from the place of work to the fire escape doors.

And; is there any legal reason why a fellow tenant in a combined multi let situation could not be given permission to use a fellow tenants escape stair? Bearing in mind they would have to come out to a landing go into fellow tenanted space and vacate; personally I see no reason why not but some out loud thinking would be appreciated.

Building width is 25.5 metres which is useful on the old 26 metre rule and whilst mentioning that one does it still stand and if so where is it written?

Where only a single escape route is provided:
12m in higher fire-risk area
18m in normal fire-risk area
25m in lower fire-risk area

Where more than one escape route is provided
25m in higher fire-risk area
45m in normal fire-risk area
60m in lower fire-risk area

with you cant see any reason why they could not use a fellow tenents Escape Stairs

"The distance people need to go to escape (the travel distance) should be as short as possible. The travel distance should be measured from the farthest point in a room to the door to a protected stairway or, if there is no protected stairway, to the final exit from the building.
• If there is only one escape route, the travel distance should not normally be more than 18 metres. This distance should be shorter (12 metres or less) in any parts of the premises where there is a high chance of a fire starting or spreading quickly. The distance can be longer (up to about 25 metres) where the chance of a fire starting or spreading quickly is very low.
• If there is more than one escape route, the travel distance should not normally be more than 45 metres (around 25 metres in areas where the risk of fire is high and about 60 metres in areas where the risk of fire is very low)."
