Hello All,
My second post on here so please be gentle
I visited a construction site last week and I was stopped by a member of my team who was informed by the site H & S manager that the working platform we currently use is '' illegal'' as the legs are angled and not straight. I found this very strange as our teams use these on a range of sites and RA have been completed and is the most practical and safe options for the tasks required. (Internal builders cleans of new build properties). I have attached a URL of the same style we currently use could anyone shed any light if they have come across this before at all?. Surely if the legs were straight this could cause the platform to collapse inwards where as the angled legs provide a more stable and working platform.

I look forward to any responses.
Thanks

If it's certified to the appropriate standard (old or new version as they've recently changed), then it's fit for use.
Ask the alleged "site H & S manager" what their reference is for their statement.
At the end of the day, it's 'Their Site, Their Rules' but tell him/her you want an explanation in writing, of their position.

Re: Working Platforms Banned On Construction Site?
Standard building site "blanket" rule.
Like, "Everyone MUST wear Gloves" & "Eye protection at all times"
We recently had to install one of our machines into a facility that was still classed as and still controlled as a building site. we were told that steps, hop-up's and ladders are banned from site. Simply because they use MEWPS and / or scaffold. Neither of those are an option for us so we stopped the job and waited for the PC, who happens to be the MOD to chip in.
Needless to say, it all worked out in the end but some "rules" are applied across a company and multiple sites without much in-depth thought, generic is not a word that should be applied within the realms of H&S but so often is.
Generic Monday morning rant completed on Tuesday.

One of our clients bans the use of GRP mobile scaffolds even when working around electricity.
Education is the key. A manager should always stand by their team. They employed them.

One of my clients only allows the 600x600 platform, but not the 300x600

Re: Working Platforms Banned On Construction Site?
I wonder if the way the specification was read was/is capable of mis-interpretation. Assuming they are not damaged, then the legs are straight, not twisted or angled. That the legs are angled away from the platform does not mean they are are not straight.
My greater concern would be if the legs from the platform where, themselves, twisted damaged or angled.
This sounds more like the person raising the issue has made an error in there interpretation.
