Me either and people call me weird!

I didn't realise coffee was poured from what looks like the jug left on the side of a hospital bed either :P

Don't see what the problem is myself..... Interesting results though.

I wonder if there is a psychology behind the numbering instead of 1 - 4?

That's a good point Berni! Wonder if anyone knows?

Just a little bump.

If you are a reader and not a poster please feel free to enter your answer in the poll, it is anonymous, do not worry about getting it wrong.

We can discuss the results on Monday (If I remember, or you can carry on without me).

Darn it!!

Yes, The devil is in the detail for sure.

I was 1000% confident I got it right after checking the picture more than several times I must admit.

Then I saw it.... Great example though of not jumping to conclusions at a first glimpse.

What I have learnt today, If something seems wrong/iffy I must not look at it 7 times, but 8 times! Hopefully people will be safe while I overlook and overlook haha

The results pretty much resemble Facebook and LinkedIn
Yes, most of you got it wrong, I Too would have got it wrong had I expected it to be straightforward.

The ones who chose number 4, well done, that's the one that makes sense, If, you take it at face value, its the lowest pipe in the top container, then the lowest in the lower container, but, it cannot happen because the pipe to 4 is blocked.

The people who chose 9 are more interesting, they spotted the pipe on 4 being blocked but not the end of the pipe for 9.

I guess no one chose 7 because anyone who ruled out the left-hand cups have already worked out what was happening and spotted the blockage, therefore the only possible route was cup 5.

However, on the Social media sites, some did choose 7.

My theory for this is that you can only see what you are looking for, remember the Daniel Simons illusion,
I can't embed it so here is a link.
https://youtu.be/IGQmdoK_ZfY

Why would you look for a blockage? it's a simple quiz where you need to follow the route of the fluid, you are not expecting there to be a trick.
People have given clues on here what to look for, yet some of you still missed it, on the Social Media sites many people give the answer and put the reasoning behind it, yet, following comments got it wrong.

Why is this relevant to us within health and safety and life in general?

Because we need to pay attention to the little details.
I chose one of the cups that was blocked.....

Have you ever heard of "10 pens"

I have googled it and could not find anything about it.
If you have heard of it "Shame on you", not really, there are probably other places where it is used but I witnessed it on a Speed awareness course.

The trainer showed us a picture and asked us to observe as much about it as possible, after 1 minute he took it away and asked us a series of questions, what colour was the watch, was the blue car on the left or right of the picture, how many pens were there etc. he wasn't interested in the answer.

Next, he asked us how many pens there were and put the picture up again, he was asked, is it pens and pencils or just pens? again not interested in the answers.

He then said there were 10 pens, he put the picture up again and in the middle, in massive writing was written "10 pens", sure enough, he counted them with us and there were 10 pens.

The point he was making was that we will only see what we are looking for, this was to highlight the fact, that, many motorists who have pulled out in front of a motorcycle said they just didn't see it, if you are expecting to see a car you may not see a motorcycle, hence the national advertising campaign "look once, look twice, think bike".

Having said that I have had many cars pull out in front of me when I was driving a 7.5t truck, how could they not see a 12 ft by 8 ft chunk of metal?

How does this relate to the puzzle above? why did we get different answers?

It's over to you.

A late reply just to give the same irritating answer I give when these appear on Facebook:

It depends on the rate you are pouring.

If you are pouring at a faster rate than the tiny channels can cope with, the initial receptacle will overflow and (ignoring any sense of depth), the overflow will fill number 9 before five is full!

And yes, I'm fun at parties. :D
We often think that when we have completed our study of one we know all about two, because 'two' is 'one and one.' We forget that we still have to make a study of 'and.'
