It will be interesting as they say it will be 66 hours of learning over the over 80 in NEBOSH. I tried to get a look at the book today and will try again tomorrow but they are very excited and the concensous was the fear of the NEBOSH exam may get people to see it as the easier option but it shouldn’t be easier in my opinion so hope it’s not. I hope it covers a more modern day view on Safety as there is a big concern amount the senior ranks that there will be a shortage of safety practitioners in the future due to the lack of young people coming in.

NEBOSH is purely a memory excersise.
Other styles better demonstrate understanding.

It will be interesting to see the content properly and where this fits in against IOSH Managing Safely and other qualifications.
I've see someone offering the course for just £100. If you use price as an indicator (and you shouldnt) then this is way down the totem pole. IOSH e-learning is £300, NCRQ GC & NEBOSH NGC £500. With

IOSH MS seems to be a level 2 qualification. This new one is listed as level 3 with NEBOSH level 5 and NCRQ level 6.

As someone wanting to break away from my current role as office manager with health and safety under her wing, this looks like a good point to being (having already got my IOSH Managing Safely).

I can't seem to find anywhere offering it. One website has it at £100 but no way of applying for the course.

There also doesn't seem to be material on the IOSH shop for it which is odd.

I believe that the introduction of any new qualification and route to a career in safety can only be a good thing, as it increases variety and appeals to a wider audience.

This is providing that standards are not lowered as a result, of course.

I would however, disagree that the NEBOSH General Certificate is merely a memory exercise. This clearly plays a large role, but to say it serves no other purpose is unfounded. It has helped me immensely in my career, and I’m sure I’m not alone.

I know the NCRQ Diploma has made quite a storm in the world of safety qualifications, it’d be interesting to know how its Certificate Level qualification- and first module of its diploma - has served against the General Certificate, so far?

The NCRQ Level 6 Cert is proving remarkably popular. It appears that many people choose this route over NEBOSH NGC because it is far more competence-based. It has the advantage of counting one third of the way towards the NCRQ Diploma should students wish to progress in future.

NCRQs view, supported by its professional standards committee, is that a qualification at level 3 (any level 3 qualification - not just NEBOSH and NCFE/IOSH) doesn't give the skills, depth of understanding and application required to take on the life- and health-critical responsibilities of a Safety Advisor or similar position. That's why we developed the Certificate-level qualification at level 6, which is aimed at the same job roles and responsibilities as the NEBOSH NGC.

This isn't to say that anyone who has completed the NEBOSH NGC or similar isn't competent - far from it. We just don't feel that a QCF level 3 is sufficiently in-depth to provide professionals with the skills and understanding they need, and employers with the assurance that they require for such a critical role in an organisation.

This is one of the many reasons why the NCRQ Certificate is rapidly becoming the first choice for those wishing to enter the profession.
