Pointy Shoes at the H&S Expo
I wore my brown, smart, pointy shoes to the H&S Expo yesterday. I love my pointy shoes, similar to these...
The pointy shoe...
Whilst walking up the stairs from the WC, I forgot that my pointy shoes were at least 4 x the depth of the treads on the stairs and I tripped up the stairs. Didn't hurt myself, scuffed the pointy shoe toe, got politely laughed at by a bunch of safety professionals who all feel the pain of being the safety guy to trip up.
I still love my pointy shoes.
Safety moment? Make sure you undertake the familiarisation training on new work equipment and if your'e still not confident of using it, stop and reassess.

Seriously, though Jack, glad to hear you're not injured (other than your pride perhaps)
You are only a millimetre or a millisecond away from the next incident.

Re: Pointy Shoes at the H&S Expo
Following an Investigation into an incident at the H&S Expo involving some stairs, pointy shoes and a Scot it has been decided that, with immediate effect, Shoes are to be banned, closely followed by a ban on going up stairs (going down stairs will not be banned as there has been no 'Pointy Shoes going downstairs' incident reported).
All shoes* are to be banned (not just Pointy ones).
*The term shoes encompasses all types of Shoes, Boots, Trainers, Wellingtons, Galoshes, Flip-Flops, Clogs, Slippers (there's a clue in the name!), Sandals, Espadrilles, Crocs, Uggs and those stupid sock type shoes with ethnic knitted patterns.
Please implement this directive once today's voting is over.
PS ...the banning of Scotsmen is not up for discussion

Those stairs down to the Toilets in the hall seemed to go a long way.
My legs didn't appreciate the climb back up late in the day!
The ones on the flat out in the central aisle were much more convenient (pun anyone?)

This reminds me of a set of stairs that I believe are part of the New York subway system. When the stairs were put in place one of the stairs is something like 1/4 of an inch larger than all the others. This results in loads of people kicking the step because well that's what we do. I believe there is a you-tube video somewhere of people walking up the steps and every other person kicks that one step!

After the video was posted, NY City sent a crew to fix it!
