Back pain

Post by Penfold »

Hi all;

About 6 weeks ago I developed lower back pain, its been getting worse going through my bum and down leg, cant get comfortable stood up or sitting but keeping moving about. Been dr and physio and they said its muscular and will clear up eventually. Have exercises to do and lots of sports massages but fed up now!

Had that years ago and dont wish it on anyone.

What I did find help at the time was exercising in the swimming pool. Stood with water up to chest height and lifting thigh until parallel to the ground and back down 10 times, then 10 on other leg. 10 reps of that. Then leg from standing position as far left (for left leg) 10 times, same with right. Stretch leg out to rear and hold for 10 (10 times each leg)

Cant remember the other exercises but there were a few, I was right as rain within a week or two.

Och Penners, that isn't so good. bighug bighug

There was a man at my gym who had this also and he, like Willpool says, came to the pool to exercise exactly as suggested. He also walked the lengths in the water. It seemed to work for him Penners.

I can also tell you that an ibuprofen gel from your Doctor would certainly relieve the pain a lot, so maybe ask them to prescribe it for you.

Hope you will soon be better Penners. Would a JC help?? :lol: :lol: ;)

Terrible state to be in.

I've been there and got the battle scars to prove it.
2 Microdiscectomy operations on my L5 disc and 15 years after the diagnosis, I'm 80% painfree if I pace myself daily and minimise lifting, bending, twisting, sitting, walking :roll: (rotation of activities is the key)

At least I don't rattle when I walk now, I used to be on 10 tablets a day for 10 years consisting of muscle relaxants and painkillers

Getting old is a pain (no pun intended).

I've been suffering from a form of frozen shoulder since last September. Had 2 steroid injections and been doing physio for months. Still no better. Any sharp movement leaves me in agony. It's a struggle to tuck my shirt in without cursing in agony. Apparantly it will right itself over time (usually 12-18 months) so I'm just having to grin and bare it. It's just so frustrating though. You have my sympathies.

Penners, can I just say not to stop taking your pain killers for this problem. The whole point of the pain killers are to relax the muscles that are trapping your nerves and if you stop the pills or play around with them, you won't allow the muscles to relax and in turn release the trapped nerves.

A really painful thing, so many bighug bighug bighug from me too Penners. .pale

p.s. If your water-works become a problem, go straight back to your Doctor.
