Re: Get well soon Alexis
You people are amazing!
Well, I went for the appointment expecting to have a Doctor if not there, at least available. This was not to be! Why should that surprise me?
I was astonished to find the nurse I see for other things like B12 etc was the lady taking the clinic. Excellent at her job, so no reflections on her, but.................when you go into a Doctor's room with a nurse behind the desk, it doesn't fill one full of confidence.
The question "how are you feeling" triggered my mouth to go into overdrive. I attacked with gusto which was unfortunate for this poor nursing professional. I needed someone who had at least heard of the name of my illness. I did apologise to her when leaving and she did note everything I said, which I have been assured will be passed to the relevant Doctor.
It turned out the Doctor who could attend to my problems was in a meeting about budgets. I wonder why this wasn't done the afternoon prior to my appointment when our health centre was closed for a half day!!
Anyway, cutting this very very short, eventually I managed to secure an appointment with said Doctor next Tuesday morning. I can only sympathise with the poor patient coming after me. They will have to bring a flask with them!
Roll on Tuesday.

Re: Get well soon Alexis
Just a quick update............
Went on the Tuesday after stopping one of the offending Statins on the Thursday prior to appointment. The Doctor was in agreement about the stopping of the statin and told me to wait 4 or 5 weeks before taking a further blood test to make sure my healthy cholesterol levels stayed firm whereupon she would then look at the next worrying medication.
Since then, I have been getting worse on a daily basis, mostly in the mornings, even to the point of telephoning my Son at work to come to a car park and take me home. The details may offend our ICRA status. Suffice is to say, life felt as though it was passing away.
Because of this worsening situation and knowing (we all know our own bodies) the drug used to lower my heart rate was not suitable for me, I made yet another appointment with my GP (well, one of the many) for yesterday (Tuesday). This GP is like a leech and won't let go when she goes into her super sleuth mode.
She pulled the computer towards me and said.............."right, let's start from the day it happened" and proceeded to scroll back to February.
Each individual part of my medical history from then she read allowed and made sure I was paying attention in case she missed anything.
Well................she did find the problem!! One, I may add, neither of us wanted to believe. It seems somewhere along the line medication I was supposed to be on and wasn't was supposed to be continued, however, when transferred to another hospital, something got a bit mixed up with the letter from the other hospital and I was prescribed the medication which is making me ill-er, so until my Doctor contacts the hospitals concerned and the Doctors there, who knows!
This morning was the worst I have been, so telephoned one of the GP's to ask if I could stop this offending medication until they find the one I should have, which is what I have to do now, but with a warning as to what to do if anything happens!!
To be fair, my "happening" was very unusual and not one seen by the original hospital, who rushed me to the specialised hospital rightly so. Upon being returned to the original hospital for convenience for my family, I was put into a different part of that hospital, so things could quite easily be muddled. I am getting muddled just talking about it.
The point is though...........had I not been a very determined person by nature, enough to question and keep questioning the medical people in various departments/hospitals/health centres, how long would this go on??? Until I eventually collapsed or my family had me sectioned!!
Good thing is............things can now be fixed and I can find my own self again. I am not condemning the medical profession as mistakes can happen. I would not have their jobs for anything. The NHS needs more people/money put in, NOT removed as is happening at the moment.

Re: Get well soon Alexis
Thank you Will.
Received a telephone call at 9am this morning from one of the GP's I have been pestering for the past 9 weeks. She informed me an e-mail arrived this morning from the Doctor in the hospital telling her to "ditch" the offending medication and after the Echo is done soon, I can have all other medication removed!
There you go...........we must make our voices heard if we feel something is not quite right.
It's onwards and upwards now with the medium baby steps to a full recovery.
Many thanks to all of you for your support. Virtual or not, when things seemed at their lowest, your support made a whole lot of difference.
For all of you...................

Alexis,
I'm so happy that you are getting better (only thanks to yourself) !!!
Shame you had to go through all the hassle of making hudreads of phonecalls and visiting different professionals (as they call themselves) to get to the bottom of the cause.
Maybe you can ask them if all that was good for your heart ?
Anyway, I'm so happy that you are feeling better and I'll keep my fingers crossed for your quick and full recovery
Mia

Re: Get well soon Alexis
Great News Alexis,
I have been away for a while so have not posted.
Whilst I have the greatest respect for most doctors and nurses, I do not have faith in the managerial sytems employed within the NHS.
You have correctly pointed out that you know when your body is not right and you sometimes have to be very persistent if not damn right rude to get some of the medical profession to do something.
Go to it tartan legend and get fully recovered soon.

Re: Get well soon Alexis
Glad you're sorted , Alexis, been away on business a lot - trying to raise finance to buy business 3 so time is hectic.
When I have time, I'll go through the 9 page tale and hopefully avoid your doctors and hospital for my blood pressure!
I got rid of my statin tablets for cholesterol last year by changing my diet drastically.
get well soon , and stand your ground!
