Stuggling with Nebosh.

Post by bigcoz »

Hi my new safety friends, I'm a scaffolder of 15 years & I'm now wanting to get into the safety side of things. I've booked the nebosh course for January & wanted to learn as much as possible before hand. I'm hoping people have different suggestions on how to study & take in as much has possible. I've been reading & reading & don't seem to be taking much in. Your help would be much appreciated.

Bigcoz

Welcome to the forums :wave:

There is the following post on the forums which may help:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6133" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We also have a downloads section with revision and learning aids:

http://www.healthandsafetytips.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Course providers should also provide you with all the materials with which to pass the course.

There is also more information on the NEBOSH website:

https://www.nebosh.org.uk/qualification ... ef=26&ct=2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope this helps and good luck with your study ../.

Hi bigcoz,
I did my NEBOSH a few years ago (and I'm still trying to get a role in Health & safety to this day) by going to night school. In advance of beginning the course, I bought a book that covered the course to try and get a head start so to speak. I found it difficult to start with but once I began night school a lot of the stuff I read in the book that made no sense, suddenly began to make sense. My advice would be to just keep on reading and it will start to make sense when your course starts.

Regards

Steven ../.

Hi all, thanks for your reply's. I've bought edd ferrets books & I've also downloaded some amazing things off of here from Otto. Was just trying to get different ways in soaking up all the information i.e. sectioning off all the different parts of the relevant material.

There are revision cards that break them down into bite size chunks.

These are also availble in the revision/download section

Hi Bigcoz
i sat my Nebosh last December and the moderators and guys n girls here will tell you i struggled to get it all to sink in but with everyones help i did, my biggest help tool was Ed Ferretts book and flash cards i made from the downloads here, and ofcourse the support i had here,
i was never in a classroom in 30years and i struggled to revise but it does all come together trust me, download all the info on here that you need and i found reading it then writing it helped, but dont struggle come on here and ask Qs and youl get help. follow the Nebosh command words is the biggest thing to learn first and past papers help greatly to get you in to the habit of writing the answers as you have been asked.
if i can do it you can and not only did i pass i passed with great marks.

Hi Louise thank you for your reply. I'm basically wondering whether to read past test paper questions then searching the answers? Or should I just read, read, read & then try the questions? I don't actually start my nebosh course until Jan 19th but as it's the intense 10 day course I'm desperate to soak in as much knowledge as possible to give myself that fighting chance. As you say, I also haven't been in a classroom since school & even then I just misbehaved & didn't learn!!

Hi Bigcoz

I'm also studying NEBOSH. Let me know if it's OK to PM you to give you a few pointers.

Cheers,

I did the 10 day course in October and just received my results.
I'm not going to lie the course is a bit extreme (in my opinion!). Especially the first few days, it is like information overload but the more you get through the course and the more you get through the book other sections link back to the earlier sections and it starts to click together.
I found the best way of things sinking in was to read the books and highlight key areas and sections - then I would rewrite these key sections into condensed notes. I found that the writing of the notes made things easier to understand and it sinks in as you have to actually process the info while your writing rather than reading the information which sometimes does not sink in.
Stick with it though (I was ready for giving it up as a bad job after 2 days but it does come good in the end!)
