PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN OLD SET OF POSTS, WHICH YOU CAN STILL GLEEN INFORMATION FROM, HOWEVER, SOME DETAILS HAVE CHANGED SO PLEASE REFER TO THE NEBOSH UPDATED GUIDANCE ON COMMAND WORDS AND UPDATED GUIDANCE ON THE NGC3. DATED: VALENTINES DAY 2019
This is the NEBOSH updated guidance on their " Command Words " used within NEBOSH examinations:
We were told (last year) by our tutor that 'sketch' was no longer used in the question.
We were also told that a sketch could still be used in the answer - such as for HSG 65, or a diagram of a typical LEV - as long as it was clearly and well labelled.
My recent NEBOSH exam mainly consited (80/90%) of 'Identify' questions !!, one list and and one describe..............quite disconcerting really.......
I've had a look through the assignments that my local college use for their online self-study version of the NEBOSH Gen. Cert which is what I'm studying and the questions in the assignments set by the college (to let them assess how much you're picking up before they allow you to apply to sit the exam) seem to be heavily weighted towards "Outline". They have 9 assignments to cover the full syllabus and I'd say 80-90% are "Outline".
Is that perhaps because students struggle most with the concept of "Outline" or is it because that is the kind of question NEBOSH is likely to set in the exam?

You are only a millimetre or a millisecond away from the next incident.
Wendolene, I had the majority of my paper on Outline questions, but that was a number of years ago.
Not sure why this is the case with your college. Perhaps, being a sort of middle of the road type question it is one that will provide them with your overall knowledge so far. Not too time consuming for either you or them, so more able to move to the next area in your study without getting bogged down. I know my Provider also gave us Outline questions more than any of the others.

Outline is the one action verb NEBOSH say people have most trouble with. They have simplified it in the new guidance but it would appear some providers are still sending students down the old route.
If you read the guidance it does make it quite plain and simple.
