Fantastic!

This post was originally a pointer to these links but it is worthy of a sticky for quick find in this law section. See a post or two down for links to the Irish Statute Law site.

Good site Jack. I do like reading through laws.

Who would have thought there were so many of them though

At present I am looking through the Hares (Scotland) act 1848, section 5, interpretation of act ...
In the interpretation of this Act the singular number shall extend to several persons and things as well as to one person or thing; and any word importing the plural number shall apply to one person or thing as well as to several persons or things; and every word importing the masculine gender only shall extend to a female as well as a male; and the word “night” shall be considered and is hereby declared to commence at the expiration of the first hour after sunset, and to conclude at the beginning of the last hour before sunrise.

For those interested the Irish legislation can be found here (up to 2005).

http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/home.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

More recent safety legislation is available direct from the H.S.A.

Great site Kevin. I am amazed by the titles of some of the old preunion acts which have mainly been repealed This page

Imagine being prosecuted under the grandly titled Tumultuous Risings Act, 1775. :)

8) Excellent, thanks for this Jack

Superb! Access to (nearly) all the stuff we normally have to hunt down the hard way :? ;)
Also, (fairly) clear explanations of types of legislation, how legislation is altered/amended and brought into force which I am sure will help many students struggling with this part of the syllabus via this page:
http://www.statutelaw.gov.uk/help/TOC.htm
8)

I suspect this site has been mentioned several times before, but it also contains Employment Appeal Tribunals and other Case Law:

British and Irish Legal Information Institute
Access to Freely Available British and Irish Public Legal Information
as a complementary site ;)

Hi
I used the site recommended but I couldn't find the case law mentioned below:

Thompsons v Smiths (Shipbuilders) North Shields Ltd 1984 QB 405. Is it only certain cases that it holds?

Regards

Possibly too old to be on there (yet?)
Try this link which refers to that case, instead?
