Employee Entitlement Off Shore Workers
Hi I used to use this forum a little last year under the name of fowler23 but had to re register quickly so now I am fowler09. I have been asked by my Rig Super to find out if there is anything in BLACK and WHITE regarding Time off to crews when arriving on board the rig? I have looked in my company handbook and on the BMS(Business Mgmt System) and there is nothing saying a specific time ie 8 hours off prior to starting work for example - which we kind of run to but not always. Does anyone out there have anything official I can quote from regarding this.

Hi fowler
It is not clear from your post where the rig is located as this may have some bearing on working conditions - for simplicity (at this stage) I have assumed it is located in UK waters and/or run by a UK-based company
HSE have a microsite which covers offshore activities - http://www.hse.gov.uk/offshore/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is probably what you are after: http://www.hse.gov.uk/offshore/workingtime.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Working Time Regulations and Offshore.
This is the most important aspect: Guidance for managing shiftwork and fatigue offshore - see:
http://www.hse.gov.uk/offshore/infosheets/is7-2008.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There are various Standards bodies for the Oil Industry and they all have similar restrictions/permissions for working hours, rest periods/fatigue avoidance while assuring 24-hour manning for critical tasks etc
So please ask away if the offshore installation is not in UK waters and/or you need to know a bit more detail
Hope this helps a bit, anyway

Thanks Helen, I am in the North Sea on a Platform. Those links were very useful and my Rig Super was very happy with the print I gave him. Gives him a little bit of guidance when talking with the men.
