Good morning Will and everybody else
Happy Burns Day
I've never been to a Burns Supper, it's something I really should make an effort to see at least once. Poor darts on my part.
Anyway, have an awesome start to your week whatever you get up to.

Morning all,
Happy Burns Day! (I don't know what that is btw )
Back to a week of normality after the 18001/14001 stage 2 last week.
Recommended for certification - no majors and a few minors. Now all pending on a sister site that is for some reason linked to our stage 2 to see if we both get through.
Time to catch up on the mass of stuff I missed last week.
Have a good one
Glen

The Scots amongst us will have to teach the Sasanach's what it's all about.... either that or just set a haggis on 'em.....Blackstone wrote:Morning all,

Re: Monday - 25 January 2016
As a recent immigrant to the area, I've had to do my research!
Robert Burns was a poet, writing for many 'Scottish' poems / songs including Auld Lang Syne and To a Mouse (wee, tim'rous beastie and all that).
His birthday was 25th January, so people have a celebration and use it as an excuse to be extra Scottish.

We often think that when we have completed our study of one we know all about two, because 'two' is 'one and one.' We forget that we still have to make a study of 'and.'

Happy Burns Night Everyone.
Rabbie Burns died at age 37. Massive funeral, but the cause of his death to this day is still discussed with no positive conclusion.
Back to now...........weather is stormy, but very mild.
Not sure about my day yet. Hopefully it will be a ploddy one.
Have a super start to your week.

Happy Burns' Night tot all of you from North of the Wall.....
Not Scottish myself but have taken part in a Burns' Night celebration before, was a very very drunken evening with lots of delicious food (yes, I enjoyed the Haggis)!
Hope all of you are well and having a great day, whatever it is that you're up to.

Re: Monday - 25 January 2016
He had two funerals, the first one was a military style funeral and was placed in 'a simple' grave, in the corner of St Michaels churchyard (where I was Christened ). He was then dug up some 19 years later and moved to a mausoleum in the Churchyard where he still lies and attracts many tourists. Outside the church there is a statue in memory of his wife Jean Armour.Alexis wrote:Happy Burns Night Everyone.

There are many rumours of how he died:
An STD as he was a bit of a ladies man,
another conversation would have him dying of alcohol abuse
Another of rheumatic fever
A theory of mercury poisoning (administered by his doctor (Dr Maxwell)) was disproved in 1971 by testing a lock of his hair from the mausoleum.
Many variations are open to discussion and are widely discussed at Burns Suppers;) He did used to go to Brow Well to bathe and drink the water in a hope for a cure in his final months and 8 - 10 months before he died, he wrote to Alexander Cunningham saying he was ailing and 'that the Bards voice would be heard no more'.
Although not a subject matter expert on Burns I know a wee bit about him as it was something 'I was brought up on' as he died in my home town as well as being buried in the church my parents got married in and I got christened in as well as being a tourist attraction. I have even had a Rowan Tree (Burns song) planted where my parents ashes are buried in Dumfries as I know they both used to love the song.
Anyway enough of that
Will
