Diploma - Unit D
Hi all, I am in the process of starting my unit D again from scratch having recently failed.
I think a big part of my problem was workplace selection, i dont have a tutor and so have nowhere to look for guidance. does anybody have any tips or guidance with regards selecting a workplace. The guidance from NEBOSH is quite vague.
I only have one shot left at Unit D and dont want to mess it up having worked so hard to pass the exams, any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Re: Diploma - Unit D
do you have any smallish companies local to where you live ? you could call in and explain whet your doing and ask if you could use them as your workplace . explain this is not some scam and they will not be able to be identified .
a bonus for them would be you could give them a copy of your report which might identify things they need to improve
have you read and understood the feedback on you previous attempts ?
there are a couple of unit D templates that may be of use in the downloads section
if you would like any further assistance PM me

I had to get mine to sign a 'log' all the way through when I did mine.

I may have not really entered into the spirit of the thing, but the FIRST thing I did was identify which two risk assessments types would give me the best results.
I went for a COSHH assessment on a little used substance, and a basic '5 steps to risk assessment' assessment for traffic movements.
I made sure I chose two different types of the established and recognised assessments.
I then worked back so that every part of the Unit D, and every issue identified in the report worked up towards these two hitherto uncontrolled issues.
This allowed me to single out a small part of the overall larger organisation I work for, and keep the report focused on that 'division'.
I am not saying that my report was an act of fiction, far from it, but I modified / emphasised the facts to ensure that I was able to shine (and when I say 'shine', I really mean 'scrape through by the skin of my teeth') on my terms.
Unit D is tricky, and careful preparation and 'setting the scene' I found to be key.
Read...... nope, ANALYSE every detail and requirement on pages 14 through to 18 of this....
http://www.nebosh.org.uk/fileupload/upl ... 649933.pdf
.... and make sure you wring out every single mark that you can.
You also need to take this document apart....
http://www.nebosh.org.uk/fileupload/upl ... 147127.pdf
.... and extract exactly what you need to do to reap the points from there as well.
Unit D is a strange beast, because few people seem that willing to talk in detail about what they did in order to pass the cursed thing. I think it may be a form of PTSD.
Best of luck!!!

Re: Diploma - Unit D
Indeed he does and he asked for "any tips or guidance with regards selecting a workplace".
My tips and guidance with regards to selecting a workplace would be to identify which two types of risk assessments that feel they are most talented at undertaking (Manual handling, COSHH, noise, etc), and identify a workplace to match, rather than finding a workplace first, and muddling along from there.
I may have got the wrong end of the stick though!

With reference to completing unit D without a tutor, yes you can. Mine sent me the log and just told me to sign it without looking at or giving any guidance! Failed it twice now!
When I have passed this blessed diploma, NEBOSH shall be getting my full opinion of there "approved provider"
